HAPPY RETIREMENT TO Mrs. Kidd
Dear Greenbriar East Elementary School Parents and Guardians,
Mrs. Della Kidd, Assistant Principal, has announced her retirement from GBE and Fairfax County Public Schools effective June 30, 2019. As an AP at GBE for the past twelve years, she has been instrumental with the Instructional Programs at our school, has been the assigned administrator for the various grade levels and is a talented leader who has built strong relationships with students, staff, and parents. She will be greatly missed. We hope you will join us in congratulating Mrs. Kidd, and wish her well as she begins a new pathway.
Standards of Learning Update
Recently, students in grades 3-6 completed the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessments. At this time most of our preliminary scores are in and we are proud to announce that we are well above the state benchmarks in all assessed areas. Individual SOL scores were sent with students in their report card envelope. While this is only one measure of progress, we are proud of the work our students demonstrated. Congratulations to the staff for their collaboration on teams and making sure the needs of students come first.
Children who will reach the age of five on or before September 30, 2019, are eligible to attend kindergarten.

Summer FEEDS Program Starts June 14
Hunger doesn’t take a vacation and neither do we! The Office of Food and Nutrition Services will be hosting the 2019 FEEDS (Food for Every child to Eat During Summer) program at various locations across Fairfax County this summer. FNS will offer no-cost lunch to all children 18 years of age as well as low-cost adult meals.
There is no registration involved, and everyone is welcome. Meal service will be provided Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting June 14 to August 23 (some sites start on June 17), with no service July 4-5.

The PTA sponsored the 6th grade end of year party this past Tuesday. Due to our fundraising efforts throughout the year, we were able to provide the funds for the 6th grade classes to go bowling, subsidize the transportation to the bowling alley, and provide the pizza luncheon they enjoyed afterwards. The kids had a great time and we were happy to give them a fun sendoff as they head to middle school!

Save the date! We will kick off the next school year with a fundraising event at the Herndon Chuck E. Cheese! On August 16, from 3 PM - 9 PM, you can catch up with GBE friends, play fun games, and eat pizza, all while helping us support our teachers and students. Mark your calendars now!
