GBW Principal's Message - June 12

Library gift

Thank you so much 6th graders for the wonderful gift! Kids will love using the new comfy reading chairs for many years to come!

An Awesome Year at GBW

Dear Families,

It has been another awesome year at GBW.  Once again, our beloved school was designated the Excellence Award by the Virginia Board of Education.  Our students in all K-6 classes strengthened their “Communicator” skills as part of their continued “Portrait of a FCPS Graduate” journey.  Our preliminary SOL test data indicate that 97% of all of our 3rd-6th graders passed their SOL tests in reading and math, with every subgroup of students matching or exceeding their scores from last year.  We wish our sixth grade students the very best as they move on to middle school, and we hope all GBW families enjoy your summer.  Remind your kids to Read! Read! Read!  It will engage their brains and help them transition to a new school year.

Sincerely,
Dr. Granada

Last Day of School Tomorrow

The last day of school for students is tomorrow -Thursday, June 13.  It is a three-hour early release day.  We will begin dismissal at 12:55 pm.

Congratulations to Students

This year, GBW had the opportunity for students to write poetry that was submitted to the Fairfax Choral Society.  Inspired by the poetry, the FCS commissioned an original song.  Congratulations to Gaayathri Mathuria, Sampurna Chakravorty, and Himneesh Medisetti, whose poetry served as the inspiration for this published piece of beautiful music

Seeking PTA Leadership Next Year

The PTA is looking for more 2019-20 Volunteer Leaders!

Yearbook Members and Photographer
Next year’s Yearbook is at risk of being discontinued due to lack of volunteers. The GBW Yearbook is a huge (but fun) undertaking that requires several parent volunteers to create this popular annual keepsake for students and staff! If you like to have fun with pictures and be creative, then volunteering for the yearbook committee is for you! Please consider learning from three experienced Yearbook volunteers, and then take over the role in 2020-21 when they depart GBW! We need volunteer parents to take GBW event photos, collect photos and information, coordinate with the publisher, and manage the purchase and distribution of yearbooks. This requires many dedicated parent volunteers to work from August through June; school hours and remote.
