How is it the last week of school? The Lemon Road Community has so much to celebrate as we enter the end of the school year. During my first year as principal, it has been very rewarding getting to know and leading this special school. We have continued the great work to provide our students a strong foundation towards their future. I want to take a moment and thank our PTA for the work over the year to support me in my first year and help our staff. I'm overwhelmed by your generosity, care, and appreciation. A HUGE thank you also to our PE Team, Harry Van Trees and Tom Hickman for organizing an amazing field day Thursday! It was by far the best field day I’ve seen or been a part of! Thank you to all our parent volunteers as well. I was highly impressed with our music instructional team and students - the band, strings, and chorus concert was a true highlight of the week.
As we wrap up one year, we are actively planning for the 2019-2020 school year. We will continue to focus on high quality instruction, collaboration among our teachers, and a caring culture through our Responsive Classroom and Positivity Project mindset. At the staff luncheon on Thursday, we will celebrate our departing staff and the contributions they have made at Lemon Road. Please join me in appreciating our staff retiring from or departing Lemon Road Elementary:
Retiring: Kathy Cossack, Instructional Assistant
Departing: Allyson Capurso, General Music Teacher; Emily Godenschwager, Grade 4 Teacher; Hector Serpas, Special Education Teacher; Joey Biggs, Grade 4 Teacher; Jon Simmons, Grade 4 AAP Teacher; Max Rzodkiewicz, Grade 6 AAP Teacher; and Tania Guzman, Art Teacher.
I will soon announce new staff joining us next year. As always, we have been hard at work recruiting the best talent because that is what our students and families deserve.
I am thankful to be able to serve as your Principal and proud of the many accomplishments we achieved this year. Our school is truly a special place with phenomenal teachers and staff, a supportive PTA, engaged families, and most importantly, happy children. We are committed to our motto, “Other People Matter” and model the mindset in all we do. This was brought front and center as former Lemon Road students - now Marshall High School graduates came to Lemon Road on Friday. They spent the afternoon talking to our sixth grade classes, visiting siblings, and reuniting with former teachers. Check out the photo at the end with Ms. Albright and a group of her homeroom from six years ago!
Remember that Thursday is the last day of school for students and a three-hour early release. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for a memorable year and have a wonderful summer! ~ Ashley Castillo, Principal
Everyone is excited for the end of year class parties this week on Wednesday afternoon. Parents, if you are interested in helping, please reach out to your room parent and classroom teacher! Our students look forward to the games, activities, crafts, and food during the parties, please remember that movies should not be the primary activity or source of entertainment. As always, please ensure you arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of parties to allow time for parking and checking in through the VMS system in the front office with your photo ID.

A reminder that many school belongings often get sent home on the last day of school. If you know your child will not be at school on the last day, please connect with your child’s teacher. We are not able to store left artwork, binders, folders, and personal belongings of students in the office over the summer. The office will have a file folder storage system to keep report cards and SOL scores of students who do not attend the last day of school available for parents to pick up until August, when all remaining documents will be shredded.
