Teachers Moving on from RRMS:

This year we are losing several staff members due to a projected drop in enrollment for the 2019-20 school year.  Currently we have 1270 students and we anticipate approximately 1125 students in the coming school year.  Rising 7th grade students whose base school is Lanier MS in the Fairfax Pyramid, will be attending Lanier starting in the 19-20 school year. Staff is allocated to support enrollment.  Additionally we have had a few staff members seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth.  We wish each of our awesome staff members farewell and the best of luck in their new roles!

Lenore Ale, Loretta Arcangeli, Christianna Carreno, John DeRose, Karen Hendricks, Steve Myers, Meredith Navarro, Ariel Oandasan, Gretta Orazen, Matt Rogers, Mike Sherman, Rachel Shuetz, Megan Stanley, Michelle Stevens, Daniel Vroman

Student Services Updates

HS Credit Course Expunge Process

The request to remove a high school credit bearing course from the transcript must be made in writing with the completed form Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School, Form. If you have questions or concerns regarding this, please contact your child’s school counselor no later than June 13.

Thinking of taking online math this summer?

Rising 9th grade students who are considering taking online Geometry Honors this summer, please be advised, some high schools have closed their face-to-face Algebra 2 Honors courses. Prior to enrolling in summer school math courses, please consult your child’s high school about how this summer program will affect their courses next year and beyond.

Courses selections for next year.

We have mailed the list of student's course request last week. Please review your child's schedule request and contact your counselor for any questions. Please note that June 13 is the deadline to change course requests for next year. Staffing is based on students' course requests and therefore, their course selection requires a firm commitment. Students can be placed in intervention courses based on their academic needs. Please contact your child's subject teachers and counselor for questions regarding intervention courses.

Student Intention Forms Moving this summer?  If your family plans include relocation, please notify us by completing the Intention Form and send it to Ms. Coreas-Chavez cacoreaschav@fcps.edu at your earliest convenience.

Medication Pick Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student his or her medication. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Jacqueline Osborne, at   703-802-7710, or your school public health nurse, Lynn Kiewel, at 703-326-6573

Rising 7th Grade Parents: Save the Dates!

Rams Rally, August 22, 2:30-5:30 PM Students and parents are able to view their schedules and visit classrooms (teachers will not be available at that time). More information will follow later this summer.

7th Grade Student Orientation, August 23, 8:00-11:00 AM (Students Only) Students will be able to take a bus from a local elementary school to come to Orientation. They will follow their schedules, meet teachers and have an opportunity to practice opening their lockers. Because there is no Shifting Gears this summer due to renovation, our orientation will address the many questions and concerns 7th graders have as they start middle school.

Under Construction: Renovation News.

  • Roofing work is being completed for the new lecture hall.  You may see a crane hanging overhead.
  • We are busily planning for the summer moves including the main office.  The office will be moving to the new addition the week of June 17 and will have limited summer hours, 9-1.
