2019-20 School Year to Start on August 26
With the school year winding down and many families making plans for summer camps, vacations, and other activities, be sure to note that the first day of school for the 2019-20 school year will be Monday, August 26. Other notable dates include Thanksgiving break, November 27-29; Winter break, December 23, 2019-January 3, 2020; Spring Break, April 6-10, 2020; and the last day of school, June 12, 2020. See the 2019-20 school year calendar.

After 13 years at Clermont, Ms. Hill will be retiring. She has built a strong general music program during her time at Clermont. We wish Ms. Hill good health and happiness in her retirement.
Order next year’s classroom supplies now and relax this summer! The Clermont PTA has once again partnered with Campus Survival to offer easy, online supply shopping for the 2019-20 school year. Simply go to www.campussurvivalkits.com/clermont and select the grade(s) of your student (s) for next school year. The supplies will be delivered directly to Clermont and available for pick up at the open house in August. All orders must be placed no later than July 15.
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 12:50 pm on June 13, 2019. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.
Our expectation at Clermont is that every student reads consistently over the summer so they continue to practice the skills they learned this year. All students are required to read at least one book this summer and be prepared to complete an activity when they return to school in the fall. Each teacher will determine what that activity will be. Students should be prepared to talk or write about their book. If it’s fiction, then they should know the beginning, middle and end including characters, setting, problem and solution. If it’s nonfiction, then they should know what it’s mostly about and be able to share some facts.
Please go to this google site: https://sites.google.com/view/clermontsummer/ for several lists of suggested books to read, information about the Fairfax County Public Library summer reading program, how to access myOn plus the chance to get a free book from Barnes and Noble.
Our season finished strong at the SRB Heroes for Homeless 5k on Sunday, June 2nd. Thank you to the families who came out to support the team! Congratulations to all our finishers, especially Mikko Towe, Morgan Dahl and Kelly DeMello for taking the top three finisher spots!! Well done Soaring Eagles!
The club was a success thanks to the many teachers who volunteered their time. They were Mrs. Wikoff, Ms. Bakke, Mrs. Casey, Ms. Troutman, Mrs. Velishka and Ms. Terrone. In addition, we had AMAZING parent volunteers who showed up to practices, ran games, encouraged runners and supported the team - Estelle Maletz, Jim Dahl, Grant and Evelyn Mizell, Vivian Towe, and Kristyna Robertson. Finally, a huge thank you to Mr. and Mrs. DeMello for the DELICIOUS Lemonabes Frozen treat!
All books currently checked out by students are now overdue! All students are responsible for the books they check out of the Clermont Library. Please help clear your child’s library account by helping to find their lost books.
If you cannot find a book, please remit payment via Cash, Check (paid to Clermont Elementary), or MySchoolBucks.
Every student who has a clear library account will be entered in a drawing to win a prize! The winners will be announced June 12th. The first five classes to turn in all their books or resolve library obligations will also be getting a class prize. All classes who turn in all of their library books get a shout out on the Clermont news show.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cangro at kncangro@fcps.edu
