Weekly Update June 3 - June 9

News from Dr. Elliott

Hello Roadrunner Nation! I’m writing this evening to share some bittersweet news.

I have decided to leave Fairfax County Public Schools at the end of June. As many of you know, I have family scattered in varying places along the east coast. It’s time for me to make the move to be closer to them. I’m also eager to explore some new opportunities in which I can use my doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. I’m a true believer that change can be positive, powerful, and revitalizing, so I am really looking forward to the next step in my adventure.

After spending the past 17 years in Virginia as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal, this has not been an easy decision. I feel honored that I have had the opportunity to serve as the principal of Graham Road Elementary for the past 3 years. I genuinely believe that this staff is the most dedicated, eager to learn, in-it-for-the-right-reasons, talented staff I have had the opportunity to serve. We’ve done such GREAT work in terms of boosting student achievement, providing rich learning experiences, building a warm and inviting culture for all, and having some FUN while doing so! We couldn’t have done this exciting work without the love and kindness from YOU and our young Roadrunners.

In terms of next steps, Region 2 leadership will reach out to you to share the process of selecting a new principal.

Mrs. Hibner and I are working diligently to ensure everyone is set up for a successful 2019-2020 year with many solid plans already in place. We are making decisions based on what we believe is best for kids and feel really excited about what next year will bring. With such a SOLID foundation of instruction under our belts, I’m a hundred percent confident that our community will continue on the upward trend of success.

From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank you for contributing to an awesome three years I’ve had here. Once a Roadrunner, ALWAYS a Roadrunner!
