Principal's Letter

May 31, 2019

Dear Waynewood Owls,

The pool is open and summer temperatures have arrived. It is hard to believe that the year is drawing to a close. We have seen so much growth in every child this year!

We are excited to share that Waynewood Elementary has earned the Virginia Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award. We are very proud of this achievement, as it recognizes the important work that students and teachers are doing each day to meet rigorous educational goals.

On Tuesday June 4, we will have the last PTA meeting of the year. As a reminder, this meeting will not be at Waynewood, but will be held at the home of our PTA president, Anne Wimberly Holman. If you plan to attend, please RSVP TODAY to wwpta1@gmail.com so that she can plan accordingly.  Our PTA has been so supportive this year. We are so lucky that so many important school initiatives and materials were funded through their efforts. To name a few:

  • Dr. Recess, Black Diamond and Weather Assemblies
  • Dr. Recess Equipment
  • Fundations and Logic of English word study programs
  • Teacher Development Opportunities and Materials
  • Math manipulatives
  • Mentor texts and guided reading books for reading instruction
  • Flexible seating options
  • Technology programs such as DreamBox
  • Music for Choir
  • New Drums for the Band program
  • PE Equipment: balls, stopwatches
  • Classroom rugs

The list goes on and on! Thank you to everyone who has supported the PTA through volunteering, attending the meetings, and coming to the events. Your support allows us to continue to provide wonderful learning experiences for all students.

We appreciated your patience on Thursday when dismissal was delayed due to hazardous weather conditions. We are hoping that no more 4:00 pm storms roll in and we can dismiss as scheduled for the rest of the year. Fingers crossed!   We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal
