Woodley Hills GeoPlunge

On May 20th, Woodley Hills's GeoPlunge Team competed in the 2019 Spring Competition held at the GW Campus in Washington DC.  A huge shout out goes to parents Karen Olmstead, Patti Stevens, and Heather Vann, who helped lead these students all year long. Our students did great at the Spring competition and only missed making the top teams by a small margin!

We thank Karen Olmstead, Realtor with Long and Foster, for sponsoring the team. “It has been extremely rewarding to me. It’s just another way I can support our community but I'll tell you, when I see a smile on their faces I know I am making an impact in their lives.”

The GeoPlunge Management Team contacted us complementing our team and the parents who volunteered their time:

'I also want to thank you for everything you have done to get such a dynamic GeoPlunge club going at Woodley Hills. Yours is truly a first-in-class club. Please pass our thanks along to the other parents that have helped you. Also your group of parents was so helpful to us yesterday. One of the dads was critical to the pizza set-up – the venue set-up was tricky getting the pizza from the loading dock into the room and I’m not sure we could have done it without his help.'

The GeoPlunge program at Woodley Hills Elementary School was started in the Fall of 2018. This is a  fast paced, interactive learning game aimed at teaching students more about US Geography, encourages critical thinking, social interaction and self-confidence. The children in grades 4-6 get the opportunity to compete (Fall/Spring) against other students in Washington D.C. area, Woodley Hills ES is currently one of only two Fairfax County after school Clubs participating in the competition.
