Cameron Elementary School Updates

Photo of head start students in their patrol belts

Students in our Head Start program learned about the Safety Patrol program recently. The Safety Patrol program allows older students to assist with safe arrival and dismissal procedures such as boarding buses and walking through the hallways safely. Our youngest students were so excited about their "big" heroes they decided to create their own Safety Patrol belts and became Patrols for the day!

Every Day Counts! Absences Add Up

Parents and guardians, as we conclude another school year, here are some important school attendance reminders:

  • FCPS will continue to monitor your child’s attendance up to the last day of school, which is June 13. Please note earlier dates for graduating seniors.
  • Notifications will continue if your child has not arrived at school or class as expected.
  • Please continue to contact the school via the attendance line or email if your child will be absent. The school attendance contact information can be found on each school’s web page.
  • The calendar for the 2019-20 school year has been posted. Make plans to have your child back at school, ready to learn, starting on August 26!

More information about the FCPS attendance policy will be available at the start of the new school year.

Written instructions for the five-step student registration process are available for kindergarten registration and grade 1 thru 12 registration on the FCPS website.

Medication Pick Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time at 1:05 p.m. on the last day of school June 13, 2019. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.   If your student has medication in the health room this year, a letter was sent home in the backpack and blank forms for next year were included for your convenience. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school. Please be sure medication orders are clear. All information on the form must be completed.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student his or her medication. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Susan Melendez, at (703) 329-2110, or your school public health nurse, Christine Notarianni, at (703) 329-2111.

Thank you for your cooperation

Samantha Branning

Staff Spotlight: Samantha Branning

Samantha Branning is a fourth grade teacher, originally from Connecticut. She has traveled to many US states. This summer plans to visit Connecticut, Delaware, Florida and South Carolina, where she will be spending time with family and getting ready for her sister's upcoming wedding.

One highlight from this school year was making ice cream in a bag to help students review Measurement and reading for important details. Yum!
