Farewell to Mrs. Diffie and Mrs. Menard-Mazurowski
As many of you have heard, we have two long time CRS teachers retiring this year: Mrs. Danielle Menard Mazurowski and Mrs. Libby Diffie. “Mrs. Maz” (pictured below) taught general music at CRS for 11 years and Mrs. Diffie (pictured at left) taught various primary grades for 12 years. We are honored to have both Libby Diffie and Danielle Menard Mazurowski join us for the June 5 evening chorus concert.

We are holding a small reception in the school library from 6:00-6:45 p.m. The 5th/6th grade chorus concert will start at 7:00 PM and all are welcome. We hope that current CRS students, as well as alumni, join us to celebrate the wonderful contributions of Mrs. Diffie and Mrs. Mazurowski! |

Tackling Invasive Species
Churchill Road sixth graders spent the past week clearing the Churchill Road grounds and the area near Dead Run Stream of invasive vegetation and seeding the areas with native grasses. Thanks to the Fairfax County Park Authority's Invasive Management Area Program coordinator, Merrily Pierce of the McLean Citizen's Association and IMA Coordinator for Churchill Road Park, and the 6th grade teachers for making this project possible.
Go Home Notes End This Friday, May 31
The last day to use the Go Home Note System this school year is Friday, May 31, 2019. After that date, all transportation changes and early pickups are to be communicated directly to your child's teacher and to the attendance line (703-288-8484) or email (ChurchillRoadElem.Attendance@fcps.edu) until the last day of school. After-school play dates cannot be scheduled on the buses after May 31. We anticipate that the Go Home Note System will resume on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Wellness: Benefits of Music
Tuesday cast members rehearsing for their upcoming performance of Fiddler on the Roof Jr.
Music is a consistent element in our lives; many tune into the radio as they get ready in the morning or on their commute, practice an instrument at home, pump up favorite songs while working out, appreciate the soundtrack accompanying a film, or sing in the shower. Music has a way of improving our mood and our enjoyment of daily activities. Research has proven that in addition to elevating mood, music reduces anxiety, helps aid memory, improves sleep, enhances visual and verbal skills, reduces pain, and boosts the immune system.
We are fortunate CRS has a vibrant music program from kindergarten through sixth grade. CRS has many upcoming opportunities to embrace the benefits of music: there is the inspiring band concert on Monday, June 3, at 7:00 p.m.; the incredible chorus performance for the community on Wednesday, June 5, at 7:00 p.m., and the fantastic multi-grade Fiddler on the Roof musical at Arena Stage on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9. Plus, students and staff will enjoy musical performances by the band, chorus, and strings during the day next week. According to Plato, "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." Bring on the music, CRS!
