Kilmer MS News You Choose and Locker Clean out #37

k

We thank our National Junior Honor Society Committee for their hard work and dedication to supporting our students' service learning projects and gallery walk presentations.

From the Principal's Desk:

Next week is the last week of school, hard to believe, I know. We have several fun activities planned: Activity Day for the 7th graders and Evergreen Park for the 8th graders on June 12th. June 13th is our last day of school and is a 3 hour early release day; students will be dismissed at 11:15.

Kudos to our amazing Music Department for the wonderful end of year concerts! Mr. Sapp's choirs, Ms. Fogel’s orchestras and Mrs. Bonneau's bands played to standing room only crowds and thunderous applause. Thank you also to Mrs. Kozik for planning and organizing our 2nd Annual Broadway Desserts – a fun treat of food and song. Thank you to the students, parents and teachers who supported our performing arts programs this year. We couldn't have done it without everyone working together.

Locker Clean-Out

Locker clean out will be held Tuesday, June 11th during PAWS. Students have been reminded to start taking home books, binders, projects for the past several days. If you have library books, textbooks or other school materials at home, they should be returned to school as soon as possible.

Yearbook Distribution

Due to a technical error, yearbooks were not distributed to all students in A lunch today. Students can pick up their yearbook in the morning in the cafeteria on Monday from 7 to 7:30 or at lunch. If your student does not have A lunch and still did not receive their yearbook, they should see Mr. Prevost in the cafeteria on Monday morning. If students still need to purchase one, yearbooks can be purchased before school (7-7:30 am) in the cafeteria. Cost is $40 while supplies last.

Summer Hours

The Kilmer building will be open Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 3pm the week of June 17, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., June 24 through June 28 and July 8 through August 9.  The main office is closed the week of July 1 - 5.

High School Summer Reading Assignments

Kilmer students head to many different high schools -- we pulled together the summer reading requirements from those schools our students are most likely attend. Here are listed those requirements from Marshall HS, Madison HS, and TJHSST.

Fourth Quarter Grades & Final Report Cards

Fourth quarter grades and final report cards can be viewed in SIS ParentVUE up until Friday, June 21st at 4:00 pm. A final report card will be mailed home the last week of June.

Option to Expunge High School Courses

In accordance with Virginia state regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course. Parents must make this request no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course.

In 7th or 8th grade, parents may request that a student's high school mathematics, or world language course be expunged after the completion of the school year. Once the course is expunged from a high school transcript, the final grade will not be calculated into a student’s high school GPA.

The “Request to Expunge High School Courses taken in Middle School” form must be submitted to the student's middle school (7th graders) or high school (8th graders) counselor before the beginning of the second quarter of the next school year.

Current 8th grader students: If your child plans to expunge a high school credit course and repeat the same course in ninth grade, please return the form to the Office of Student Services at Kilmer Middle School by Friday, June 14th. We will then notify the high school in order to ensure that your student is enrolled in the correct class at the start of the school year. After June 14th, please submit all expunge forms to the high school.

Reminders

After School Survey

Parents,

Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than a few minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality.   This survey has been approved by the FCPS Internal Survey Review Committee.  Seal Approval  Number 19225.

Over 95% of our students participated in the after-school program this school year, with over 22,000 occurrences of students staying after-school.  Thank you for your continued support of the Middle School After-School Program!

All survey responses are due by the last day of school, June 14.
