Pick Up Medication in the Health Room
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school Thursday, June 13. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
If you have any questions, please contact our school health room aide, Maha Mossad at (703) 551-5700.
It is with great excitement that we invite Halley family and friends to join us for FIELD DAY 2019 on Thursday, June 13th from 9:30-12:30! Come and see all Halley students having fun, laughing, and enjoying the company of their friends while participating in the many field day activities being offered. Students will be grouped by classes and will rotate through activities both inside and outside of the building.
GENERAL INFO: Please supply your child with a water bottle or sports drink. Please label their drink…and no glass containers please. You may want to consider sunscreen for your child, as we will be outside for several hours (apply before students arrive to school). A cap or visor is also good protection from the sun. We will have stations where students may get wet. If you would like to send a change of clothes, that would be appreciated but not necessary.
VOLUNTEER INFO: We are asking for volunteers! We have planned 32 different activity stations for our Halley Hornets. We will also have three, whole grade level activity stations.
NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NEEDED to VOLUNTEER! Each activity station will be set up with both written and verbal instructions provided. An activity sign-up sheet will be posted outside of the gym on Field Day and soon, a google sign-up form will be available through the Hornet Happenings. For more information please contact our PE Teachers, Ian Creek imcreek@fcps.edu and Tom Pennell tmpennell@fcps.edu.
Class Assignments for 2019-2020
One of the most important aspects in setting students up for academic and social-emotional success is his/her class assignment. Making the most effective match with teacher and classmates is a very thoughtful, careful process that involves many different criteria. Each child's strengths and needs are considered in the lengthy and complex process of developing class assignments.
If you would like to share specific information about your child that school staff may not know, particularly regarding learning style and classroom environment, we ask that you please submit it to the principal, Mrs. Peerman Klpeerman@fcps.edu, in writing by Friday, May 31st.
We ask that you do not request specific teachers and because you are the expert(s) on your Halley Hornet, we ask that you please keep your information centered on your child and the type of learning environment you feel would be the most productive for him/her. We assure you that with or without a letter, each child’s strengths and needs are considered in the extensive and intricate process of developing class assignments.

Parent Resource Center Workshop
The Parent Resource Center is hosting a workshop (June 7) and open house (June 4 & 6) to set parents up with activities to keep their children busy over the summer. The workshop will help them make daily and weekly plans, and they’ll walk away with ideas and materials for free and fun activities around the county for the summer. The Open House will be a more informal setting where parents can browse the PRC, and will leave with all of the art supplies necessary for making a series of adventure-themed projects. Everything necessary will be included: scissors, glue, paper, stickers, boxes, string, etc. This will be great for parents of kids ages 4-11.
The fliers and translations, as well as the links to registration are included below.
*The Parent Resource Center is excited to offer this workshop registration translated into Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, and Arabic! As always, this workshop will be filmed and added to the Parent Resource Center YouTube Channel.
