6th Grade Promotion Ceremony

We are excited to invite you to our 6th grade Promotion Ceremony on June 13th at 9:00 a.m. You and your families are invited to share in this exciting occasion where we celebrate our 6th graders and all of their accomplishments! The ceremony will be held in our school gym. Immediately after the promotion ceremony, we will transition to the Outdoor Classroom for pictures. Each classroom teacher will have their class rosters available for parents wishing to sign out their sixth grade child for the remainder of the shortened school day.

School Suppy Orders

The PTA is offering parents the convenient services of pre-packaged supply kits. This service by The Write Stuff ensures your child/children have the school supplies they need next year without having to run to five different stores to find them. Pre-packaged supplies are not a fundraiser for the PTA.

Each kit contains exactly what is on your child’s supply list.

Supplies can be ordered using the link below

https://www.write-stuff.com/storefront/school/leescorner

Orders placed online by June 14, 2019 will be sent directly to Lees Corner. Orders can still be placed online until July 15, 2019 but will include a delivery fee and be sent to your home address.

If school supplies are ordered by June 14th and shipped to the school they will be delivered directly to your students’ classroom.

If you have any questions, please contact Elaine Chen at elaine.y.chen@gmail.com

Drawing Workshop for Students

In conjunction with their educational partnership with Lees Corner Elementary, Northern Virginia’s All Star Comic Con will host another special kids drawing workshop on May 29, 2019, in the school’s cafeteria. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms to go directly to the workshop. The workshop ends at 5:30 and parents should be here to pick up their children on time.

This event is open to the first 40 Lees Corner students in Kindergarten through Second Grade that register based on the timestamp of form submission. Artist Jenna Ayoub will teach the kids how to draw Darwin and Gumball from the hit cartoon The Amazing World of Gumball.

About the artist:

Jenna Ayoub is a comic artist and writer working with BOOM!Studios. She has worked on titles such as "The Amazing World of Gumball", "Steven Universe", "Adventure Time", and "Regular Show". Her illustrations have also been featured on the covers of “The Amazing World of Gumball” original graphic novels. She is also a regular lead for art workshops at Comic Logic Books in Ashburn, VA.

Materials for this event will be supplied by Lees Corner and All Star Comic Con. A final art piece will be created by the students to take home. Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis! Please register today using this link.

Confirmation will be provided via email. Parents of confirmed students are welcome to join their child for the drawing workshop. For more information regarding registration for this event, please contact the main office of Lees Corner ES at 703-227-3500.

Book Swap

The Lees Corner Book Swap is almost here! This event is a great opportunity for students to get some “new-to-you” summer reading books and give away some books that they have finished reading to others!

Each student may bring a maximum of FIVE BOOKS.  Books must be in good condition* (see note) and appropriate for students in grades K-6 (something you would find in our library 😊 or that you know your student has enjoyed in the past).

* PLEASE NOTE: The following will NOT be accepted for the swap:  activity books, pamphlet style books (like the ones from Chick-Fil-A), magazines, religious books, or books that have been written in or that are damaged.  Please do not send in books that do not have a cover or have pages missing or torn.

NEW PROCEDURE FROM LAST YEAR:  Students will drop off books during their scheduled library time or as scheduled by Mrs. Dunbar with the classroom teacher, May 28-31.  The week of June 3rd, students will come to the library to select their “new-to-you” books!

Any extra books we have will be shared with other schools in need.

Thank you for participating in the book swap!

Happy Reading!

LCES Walk in My Shoes 2019

On Thursday June 6, the 4th graders at Lees Corner Elementary will have the opportunity to experience the perspective of students with disabilities or sensory issues. The "Walk in My Shoes" program will provide them with a variety of activities that simulate challenges for special needs children. The students will learn the importance of understanding differences and including people of all abilities through respect and empathy.

JOIN US!!! Volunteers are a key part of this event! We welcome all volunteers but are also in need of parents and teachers who have experience with modeling supportive attitudes toward children with special challenges.
