Memorial Day Service

American Legion Post 270 hosts a Memorial Day service yearly at McLean High School.  All members of the community are welcome to attend.  The service begins at 11:00 on May 27th in front of the school at the memorial Garden.

Medication Pick-up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, June 13th. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is FCPS policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.  If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, Julie Gamboa, at 703-714-5710 or jgamboa@fcps.edu

Morning Attendance Calls

The morning attendance telephone calls, texts and e-mails for reporting student absences will not occur for middle and high schools during AP, IB and SOL testing from Monday, April 29, 2019 through Friday, June 7, 2019. Students involved in testing are often in designated testing sites within the school during the normal attendance-taking time, so morning attendance notifications will be suspended. The evening attendance notifications will remain in place.

Annual Physicals Night - May 23

Standards of Learning Test Schedules for Students Observing Ramadan

This year, the main Standards of Learning (SOL) testing window has significant overlaps with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month marked by daily fasting. The SOL testing window begins for high schools on Monday, April 29. All schools must complete SOL make-up tests and retakes by Friday, June 7. Ramadan begins the evening of Sunday, May 5, and ends with Eid-al-Fitr on Wednesday, June 5.

FCPS welcomes and encourages engagement with parents and guardians of students affected by this overlap. School staff will work with parents and guardians to make schedule adjustments or determine how best to address students’ needs. For example, it may be possible to schedule testing early in the day when energy levels are likely to be highest.

If you have a child in an SOL grade-level who will be fasting to observe Ramadan this year, notify your school counselor to take advantage of possible scheduling options.

AP Boot Camp

AP Boot Camp is an interactive leadership conference where students discuss and practice the qualities required for success in AP classes, college and in the corporate world.  AP Boot Camp is designed for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who are enrolling in their first AP class in the fall.
