WAKEFIELD FOREST ES Weekly Message

art elective

Elective students have been preparing sets and backdrops for the upcoming production of The Lion King.

Thank you to so many of you for attending the information session on the growth and capacity challenges at WFES last night. We always appreciate the dedication our families show to supporting our school. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available concerning our renovation plan.

The Lion King
We are excited to see many pre-sale ticket orders coming in each week for The Lion King! Please check your child’s Thursday Folder the following week for an envelope holding your tickets. If you send your order in on a Wednesday, it may take two weeks. Should you have any questions regarding your tickets, please contact krisanderson@gmail.com
We look forward to seeing you for our performance in June!

Last day for library book checkout is May 24
The last day students may check books out of the WFES library is Friday, May 24. All student library books must be returned and library obligations satisfied by Friday, May 31. Please continue to check your child’s Thursday folders for overdue notices each week. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Rapuano at alrapuano@fcps.edu

WFES Edible School Garden Information Session and Tour: Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 pm
Help Our Garden Grow!  Whether you like to get your hands dirty or simply want to support the continuation of this unique, hands-on, learning opportunity, we invite you to come learn more about the WFES Edible Garden and the program we are building around it.

Research has shown that school gardening has a positive impact on nutritional knowledge and behaviors, academic indicators, and community connectedness. The edible garden at WFES is growing, but we need your help to keep it going. No garden experience or lengthy time commitments are required - just a desire to make sure our kids and community have access to school gardening, and a willingness to pitch in as your schedule allows.

If you are interested in learning more about gardening, the benefits of this program, or to join our Garden Committee, meet us at the WFES edible garden (across from the playground) Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 pm for an information session and tour.  All kids and parents are welcome and healthy, delicious snacks will be provided! To RSVP or ask questions, please contact Melissa Aune (703)399-6088 or melissaaune@gmail.com.

WFES Grad Walk on June 3
We invite all current high school seniors who attended Wakefield Forest ES to join their former classmates for our annual Grad Walk on Monday, June 3.  Seniors should plan on arriving in their caps and gowns at 2:30 pm.  Once assembled, they will then walk through the entire school as our students and staff congratulate them and wish them well in all their future endeavors!  Please call the WFES office at 703-503-2300 with any questions.
