Orange Hunt News We HOOT

PALS dog

Orange Hunt has been very fortunate to host the PAL therapy dogs again this year! PAL (People, Animals, Love) is a nonprofit Therapy Dog organization in our area and we have invited them to come and share their friendly pups with us during SOL weeks. The dogs will be outside of door seven during recess for students who would like to visit them one last time this year, on Wednesday, May 29 from 11:00-12:30 p.m.

Calendar Reminder

Schools will be closed on Monday, May 27 for the Memorial Day holiday. We will see the students back to school on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. Have a safe weekend!

Digital Citizenship Resources

As we move closer to summer, students may be changing their routines and using technology differently than during the school year. It's important for families to help their child become safe, ethical, responsible and respectful digital citizens alongside support from their teachers and school community.

Please click here to access FCPS Digital Citizenship Resources to support family learning and conversations. On this site, you will find resources to help establish digital expectations at home, device contracts and media agreements, tools to select age appropriate content, and much more.

Thank you for your support at home as we work together to support our student's digital citizenship!

Kiss and Ride Reminders

We know there is a lot going on at this time of year and people are in a hurry.  We are noticing some unsafe practices mostly in the afternoons. Please read the reminders below so we can keep everyone safe!

Morning Reminder:

In the morning, it is important that you arrive before the side doors close at 8:45am.  Our staff has to report to their next assignment to work with our students.  If you arrive after 8:45am you will need to park and walk your child into the building.  It is important for your child to start their day on time.  Many students feel unsettled and stressed if they are walking into their classrooms after the bell has rung and their class is already engaged in learning.

Afternoon Reminder:

We have a very busy afternoon at dismissal.  We have adults and students not crossing at the crosswalks.  This is very unsafe and we do not want anyone to be injured or seriously hurt.  We expect families to use the official Kiss and Ride to pick up your child.

Below are the guidelines we ask you to follow to keep everyone safe at arrival and dismissal.

(8:20-8:45am & 3:35pm)

  • Drop your child off only in the Kiss and Ride traffic pattern. Do not drop your child off on Sydenstricker Rd. or other areas around the school/neighborhood.
  • Pull your car forward as far as possible in the line.
  • Make sure that your child exits your car on the building side only.
  • Do not pass other cars in line.
  • Go directly to Sydenstricker Rd; do not use the bus access lane in front of the school.

SOL Testing Calendar

Students in grades 3-6 in our school will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests between May 13, 2019 and May 31, 2019. It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child have a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.

If you become aware of an unavoidable conflict that could result in your child missing a testing day, please notify your child’s teacher as soon as possible.
