FCPS Career Switcher Information Session-May 21, 2019

The Office of Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) will host a Career Switcher Information Session at the Willow Oaks Administrative Center on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. This event will give military veterans, community members and anyone interested an opportunity to learn how to become a licensed Virginia teacher.

The information session will begin with presentations from the four approved Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) career switcher programs, Educate Virginia, Old Dominion University, Regent University and Shenandoah University. Troops to Teachers will also present their program offerings to our military veteran attendees. A panel of FCPS educators will share valuable information with attendees via Q&A fashion, followed by an opportunity to network with the five presenters, the FCPS licensure team and the substitute office.

We would like you to share this event information with your school community, parents, FCPS employees and anyone in your network seeking information on becoming a licensed Virginia teacher.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Immunization Letter for Rising Sixth Grade Students

The Human Pailomavirus Immunization Letter was sent home to all rising sixth grade students in this week’s Thursday folders.  They will need this for their entry into middle school. Additional information is below.

The Virginia General Assembly passed a law in 2007 that requires the Virginia Department of Health to provide the parents and/or guardians of rising sixth grade girls, with information on human papillomavirus (HPV) and the human papillomavirus vaccine. In 2011, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made an additional recommendation that boys of the same age also routinely receive HPV vaccine. The human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) prevents most cervical cancers in women and several other types of cancers in both men and women.

The Virginia Department of Health HPV Information Packets are available in English and Spanish at the following websites:
