POSITIVITY PROJECT

Other People Matter Mindset

We conclude our Positivity Project with a review of the Other People Matter Mindset. Relationships are the heart of the Positivity Project.  Positive relationships are the cornerstone of health, happiness, resilience, and even many jobs of the future.  We hope our school focus on relationships, empathy and character strengths has inspired a positive change for our school community!

SOL Testing Begins Next Week

We are beginning our SOL testing on Monday. Below are a few reminders along with the SOL tests that are scheduled over the next week.

Please help your children get a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast so they are ready to do their best. We will begin testing at 9:00AM, so it is important for all students to be on time to school.

Monday, May 13th: 4th Grade Reading SOL-Part 1

Tuesday, May 14th: 4th Grade Reading SOL-Part 2 & 5th Grade Reading SOL-Part 1

Wednesday, May 15th: 3rd Grade Reading SOL-Part 1 & 5th Grade Reading SOL-Part 2

Thursday, May 16th: 3rd Grade Reading SOL-Part 2

The SOL testing policy states that students cannot use electronic devices of any kind during the testing session.  This includes cell phones, PDA’s, MP3 players, pagers, ebook readers, portable listening or recording devices, and any other type of electronic or communication device (including wearable technology).

Students should consider leaving these devices at home or they need to be turned off and in the student’s backpack during the school day.  Students caught with a cell phone and/or other electronic device during SOL testing will receive a discipline consequence and could result in receiving a zero on the SOL test.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or our assistant principal, Melissa Miller.

School Supplies

The PTA has made it easy to order supplies again this school year! Skip the lines, not finding what you need, or overpaying. You can simply order what your student needs by visiting www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks

Enter the school ID – DEE040 (3 letters, 3 numbers), then follow the directions to complete your order. Be sure and keep your online confirmation as your receipt.

Or, if easier, you can use this form and mail in your payment by June 7th. Checks made payable to Deer Park PTA.

If you have questions, please contact Mat Campet at mfcampet@fcps.edu.

Run for Remembrance 5K and 1K

Westfield High School lost two beloved members in 2015 and 2016 due to heart related issues.  Conor Bouveron was a recent graduate of Westfield and a former Deer Park student. Mike Greiner was an English teacher. The Westfield HS SGA will be hosting the Run for Remembrance: In honor of Mike Greiner and Conor Bouveron A 5k and 1k on Sunday May 19th at 8:00 AM.  The Run will start and end at Westfield High School.  This year the proceeds will go to the American Heart Association and our local Ryan Lopynski Big Heart Foundation.  The Big Heart foundation provides free heart screenings for young athletes from age 12 to 26.  Screenings have been held in local high schools and universities including George Mason and Virginia Tech.
