Rising 7th Graders - Cooper Prep

Registration information here for Session 2, August 14-15 from 8am-12pm

Cooper Prep is a program intended to ease the transition from elementary to middle school for rising 7th graders. Students will become familiar with Cooper and learn about expectations for 7th graders by familiarizing themselves with the building, understanding our schedule, practicing how to open lockers, and asking questions of current Cooper students. Additionally, students will learn organization, time management, note-taking, and cooperative learning strategies that will help them have a successful school year! Once your paperwork has been received and your payment has been processed in My School Bucks, you will receive an email confirming your child’s registration for the program. Included in the $75 registration fee are two days of instruction, lunch each day, and a limited edition Cooper Prep T-shirt. Please reach out to Emily Knupp at CooperPrep@fcps.edu if you have any questions.

Rising 8th graders-Summer Boot Camps

Writing Boot Camp

The Summer English Boot Camp is geared towards rising 8th-grade students who want to be more confident in their writing before the school year starts. Students will work on composing a full multi-paragraph analysis using CECc paragraphs. Students will have voice and choice in their readings, but will hone their annotation and analytical responses to the reading that they select each day. All lessons will help students grow on their critical and creative thinking skills, and all students will receive feedback from current Cooper teachers and peers throughout the week. This boot camp is a good opportunity for students to meet other students, review skills, and engage in thinking over the summer.

Algebra Boot Camp

This math camp is designed only for rising 8th-grade students who will be enrolled in Algebra 1 this fall.  It is not designed for students enrolled in Algebra 1 Honors.  The course will reinforce and solidify the pre-algebra skills that are critical for success in Algebra 1. Students will also get a jump start to the year through an introduction to the initial concepts of the Algebra 1 course.
