LBSS Weekly News - May 10, 2019

teacher appreciation week

Message from Dr. Smith

It has been phenomenal week, as we took time to expressly thank our teachers and staff for all that they do for our students and community. We celebrated our teachers, our food services staff, and our school nurse for their tireless efforts to support the students and community of Lake Braddock.

Our Jazz small ensembles put on a great performance on Tuesday night and on Wednesday night we inducted 226 students into the National Junior Honor Society.

We also introduced our new girls’ basketball coach, Liz Reed, to Bruin Nation. Our baseball coach, John Thomas, was named Patriot Conference Coach of the Year. Senior Nights were celebrated for the varsity sports over the course of the last week and our spring sports began the district postseason.  Our boys and girls soccer teams pulled upsets in the Patriot District quarterfinals and advance to play in the semifinals next week!  Good luck to our baseball, softball and soccer teams who will continue to compete for a District championship next week!

AP testing started this week and will continue through May 17.  SOL testing begins on Monday, May 13 and will continue through May 23.  Check out our SOL Calendar for more information.

Tomorrow night, the Seniors will celebrate together at the prom "A Night Under the Stars." We look forward to a safe, fun, and enjoyable night for all.

Thank you for your continued support of our Bruins!

Daniel W. Smith, Ed.D.

Hispanic Leadership Alliance Scholarships are awarded!

Four years ago Lake Braddock created the Hispanic Student Association in conjunction with Hispanic Student Alliance organization to offer leadership opportunities for our students and to award scholarships to students who have overcome enormous challenges to graduate. This year we have two students who will receive scholarships of $1000 each.  Their stories show their courage and determination to succeed despite overwhelming obstacles.  They attended an award ceremony on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, with Dr. Scott Brabrand, Division Superintendent, as the keynote speaker. Congratulations to our students!
