Chorus Prepares for "A Night on Broadway"

Members of the Canterbury Woods 5th and 6th grade Chorus are busy rehearsing for their upcoming concert on Monday, June 3rd.  We will perform for students in an all-school assembly at 3:00 PM and family and friends are invited to attend the 7:00 PM concert.  Our theme is “A Night on Broadway.”  We have been working on songs from musicals such as, “Les Miserables,” “Wicked,” and “Hairspray.”  You won’t want to miss this exciting show!

National Walk/Bike to School Day  - May 17th

Ms. D’Amato and Mr. Healey are excited to promote National Walk/Bike to School Day on Friday, May 17th.  This is a great opportunity to start the day off the right way while taking a safe route to school.  The support of the Canterbury Woods community in this initiative would be a huge help!  Please join us as we look to inspire our students to seek more daily exercise!

Field Day - Friday, May 31st

It is with great excitement that we invite family and friends to join us for Field Day on Friday, May 31st! (Rain Date - Friday, June 7th)  Grades K-3 will be from 10:00-12:00 and Grades 4-6 will be from 1:00-3:00.  Come and see our children having fun, laughing, and enjoying the company of their friends while participating in the many field day activities being offered.  Please mark your calendars and go to the sign-up genius link below to volunteer your help:

We will be having a lot of activity centers at each session, so we will need many parent volunteers!  We are very short on volunteers for Grades 4-6 Field Day, with 14 slots still available.  We would LOVE your help!  Think warm and dry weather and get ready to join us for the fun!

Thanks!

Author Karen Kane Visit Local Bookstore

Bards Alley, an independent bookstore located in Vienna, Virginia will host an Author visit on Sunday, May 19, 2:00 pm. The event is called "Diversity in Middle Grade," and features middle-grade authors Karen Kane and Naomi Milliner, who have both written books about deaf and disabled characters: Charlie and Frog and Super Jake & The King of Chaos. The event is free to attend, but requires an RSVP on our Facebook page.  Karen Kane visited CWES in the fall and talked with our students. CWES families who purchase books that day will receive a 10% discount!

We hope to have an ASL interpreter and a Cued Speech transliterator at the event if there are any deaf or hard of hearing children or adults who plan to attend. (Anyone who needs one should reach out to me directly at sarah@bardsalley.com.) Please pass along this information to anyone who you think might be interested!
