It's Teacher Appreciation Week! On Monday our teachers were treated to an omelette bar to start the week right. Throughout the week, administrators, the Cameron PTA, parents and students have shown how much they appreciate the hard work and dedication of the AMAZING team at Cameron. Great job, teachers!


Dates to Remember

  • Wednesday, May 15 - Bike to School Day. See below for details.
  • Thursday, May 23, 7:00 p.m. - PTA General Meeting
  • Monday, May 27 - Memorial Day, Student Holiday. There will be no school for students. The main office will be closed.
  • Friday, May 31 - Cameron Field Day. K-2 students will have field day from 9:45-12:15. Grade 3-6 students will have field day from 1:15-3:45. More information about parent volunteers coming soon!
  • Friday, May 31, 7:45-8:30 a.m. - Parent Coffee at Twain Middle School. See below for more information.

Bike to School Day

Cameron is participating in Bike to School day on Wednesday, May 15. Any student who walks or bikes to school that day can get a special prize from Mrs. Bogacki or Mr. Finerfrock! To learn more about the event, go to walkbiketoschool.org

SOL Testing Schedule

Standards of Learning tests are coming up later in the year. Please remember that attendance on testing dates is particularly important. Avoid scheduling any time away from school for students during this time of year. Students are also reminded to get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in preparation for tests.

Clothing Center in Need of Donations

If you are doing some spring cleaning and your children are growing out of some their clothing, please consider donating your gently used items to the Clothing Center. Some of our families are in need of clothing and would be grateful for your donations. Questions? Contact Cindi Bryant.

Heads Up: 2019-20 School Year Calendar Changes; Notable Dates

New Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. As a result, FCPS’ 2019-20 Standard School Year Calendar has changed and Friday, August 30, is now a holiday for students. In addition, the School Board voted to move the March school planning day to Tuesday, March 3, 2020, to accommodate the 2020 presidential primary.

Other notable dates include the first day of school, August 26; Thanksgiving break, November 27-29; Winter break, December 23, 2019-January 3, 2020; Spring Break, April 6-10, 2020; and the last day of school, June 12, 2020. See the 2019-20 school year calendar


Edison Basketball Skills Co-ed Camp

  • Session 1: July 8-12
  • Session 2: July 22-26
  • Grades: 4th – 9th graders
  • Times: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Location: Edison High School
    5801 Franconia Rd, Alexandria, VA 22310
  • Sponsored by the Edison Athletic Boosters
  • Cost: $150* per camper, per session (checks to Edison Boosters)
    *Pay by June 30 and pay $140!

Campers will receive: Camp T-shirt and a chance to win prizes. They will also get instruction from Edison coaches and players on developing skills, learning the basic fundamentals of the game, rules of the game and the principles of team play, all with the emphasis on having fun! Pizza & snacks are available for purchase.

Susan Glass

Staff Spotlight: Susan Glass

Mrs. Glass teaches third grade at Cameron. She and her husband have two children of her own, in 8th and 5th grades. Her family also has a beautiful Golden Retriever who keeps their hands and hearts full! Most of her outside of school time is spent on soccer and baseball fields with her kids. When she can, Ms. Glass enjoys running and taking long bike rides with her family.
