Dear CES,

What a great week of celebrating the CES staff and the wonderful things they do to support our students and community! Thank you to everyone for all of the treats and gifts this week for teacher appreciation.

We had several students (picture to the right) show perseverance in their efforts to regularly log-in and complete vocabulary enrichment tasks.  In addition, zest was displayed as they expanded their vocabulary skills with Infercabulary.  We are very proud of their efforts and wanted to recognize their positive strides.  What a way to respect learning and grow academically.

P-NATS Game

Last Sunday's game ended up being rained out, I wanted to follow up with you! As a reminder, kids can use their bookmarks at any of the three remaining reading program games (May 19th, June 7th or June 9th). If they came to the ballpark and exchanged their bookmark for tickets, the tickets are good for any remaining 2019 home game, excluding July 4th.

Get to know the Staff of CES!

This week we will learn more about our 4th Grade team. Please click HERE to see their wonderful videos.

2019-2020 Class Placement Survey

We greatly value parent feedback and we recognize that class placements are an essential component of a successful learning environment.

In June of this year we will be working on our class placements for the 2019-2020 school year and will be collecting parent input electronically using this form. Please know that selecting class placements at CES is a complex process which requires the collaboration of administrators, teachers, and input from our parents. For this reason, please know that all information submitted on this form will be shared with the administrators, classroom teachers, and specialists.

Click HERE for the Class Placement Survey.

All feedback must be submitted by June 1.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this form, and we will reference this information to help us make an informed class placement decision.

Mr. Douds and Mrs. Van Gorder will be initiating a new family program focused on fitness, service learning, and character education. The overall theme for Family Fitness 4 α Cause will be family fun character education, with a focus on helping others (#OtherPeopleMatter).  A key component is family participation and all children must have a parent or guardian present to participate.  Please click HERE to let us know if you will join us on Thursday, May 23 at 4:30 PM in the CES Gym to learn more about this family fitness program. We will be having a cookout following the meeting.

The Franklin Band & Orchestra Camp

The Franklin Band & Orchestra camp is not usually held this close to home, but this year it is right around the corner at Centreville HS! Rising 4th grade and up students can continue on their band or strings instruments or start a new one at this month-long day camp. Registration is only $275, and includes a t-shirt and instruction by some of the best teachers in the county (including Ms. Henry and Ms. Kropaczek!) as well as a final concert.

More details and registration can be found at www.franklinbandcamp.com!

This past week our students focused on:

LEADERSHIP

WHAT DOES LEADERSHIP MEAN?

You value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best. Leadership can be both formal and informal. It is concerned with getting others to do what needs to be done while maintaining group morale to ensure readiness to act in the future. This character strength’s focus is on the personal qualities of leaders, rather than the practice of leadership. These qualities include the ability to understand others and inspire them toward a common goal, the capacity to mitigate conflict and mold consensus, and the desire to lead other people.

Positive psychology focuses on transformational leaders. This type of leadership is a process where “leaders and their followers raise one another to higher levels of morality and motivation.” These leaders can create a vision, communicate the vision, develop a coherent strategy to achieve that vision, and lead the charge towards its attainment. Through their words and actions, these leaders develop an inspirational relationship with their followers. That is, they fill others with the spirit to attain the vision.
