SLHS Testing Information

5/2/19

Dear Seahawk Families:

It is hard to believe we only have about six weeks left in this school year. Please read on for important information about IB and SOL testing schedules.

Testing Environment & Electronics

For IB and SOL testing situations, it is imperative that we have the cooperation of our students that no electronic devices or backpacks are allowed in testing rooms. Electronic devices (cellphones, laptops, kindles, i-watches, etc…) in a testing session are a test irregularity and may result in the student with the device getting a zero on the attempt and worse case an entire group of students having their test invalidated.

Please note, that if your student brings an electronic device to the testing room it will be taken and stored in security until a parent can pick it up. Security staff are here until 3:30p.m. each day.

Testing Schedules

IB Testing

Testing begins tomorrow, May 3rd. The full schedule can be found at: https://southlakeshs.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/inline-files/2019%20IB%20Exam%20Schedule.pdf

On the day of IB exams, students are excused for the entire day. Students who choose to come to school for the full day must report to classes. There is no space available for a study hall. Students should pay particular attention to their testing location as those have changed this year with SOL testing running concurrently.

SOL

SOL testing runs May 6th through May 24th. Most of the testing will take place the 9th through the 24th. Our bell schedule will be adjusted during this window. Please note that we are not able to interrupt testing to pullout or remove students for appointments, deliveries, etc.… These type of interruptions create a testing irregularity.

This is the first time that we have had IB and SOL testing overlap due to our earlier graduation date. It is going to be important that students are in attendance for scheduled exams, particularly seniors. There is very little time for make-up SOL exams (IB does not allow make-ups during this window). The added “choice” option for some students is another new component to testing. Thank you in advance for your cooperation during this testing window with lots of new challenges. SOL schedules are being pushed out to every student individually to their fcpsschools email.

Attendance Calls

Morning attendance calls will not go out from now through June 7th to allow schools flexibility as students are not following their regular bell schedule or class sequence.  Every attempt to update attendance before AA’s leave in the afternoon will be made daily. For parents who get evening calls and have questions regarding their student’s attendance, they are asked to follow-up with the grade level subschool.

Preparing for testing

All students are encouraged to get a good night’s sleep prior to testing. Students may also want to pack a snack or a book to read for longer classes where they are not testing. We do have a number of students with food allergies, so students need to be mindful of “no food” rooms. There is no food allowed in testing locations for either IB or SOL.
