PTA Vienna Elementary School Contest Winner
We had a blast at the Vienna 5k and Fun Run on Sunday! The class with the most people who registered that wins the Spirit Day is….. Mrs. Forman’s First Graders! Congratulations!
Challenge Week is nearly here!
Starting next Monday, VES will compete in the annual Bike or Walk To School Challenge week against the other Vienna elementary schools. Last year we won the Bike Cup and came close to winning the Challenge Cup. We want to win both trophies this year, so let's walk or bike to school each day next week! We'll be getting updates during the competition so stay tuned!
And an awesome bonus for us is our Teacher led Bike Trains. National Bike to School Day is next Wednesday, May 8. Join Mr. Sid, Mr. Reynolds, and other VES staff on your bike as we ride into VES in style! Keep posted for the meeting spots!"
Fundraiser
The SCA is kicking off a penny drive to support an organization that works with many of our special needs students. We will be accepting any loose change or coins to donate to Jill’s House. Jill’s House provides quality care for children with intellectual disabilities while providing valuable respite for families. Every contribution counts! Donation jars will be in the main entryway of VES and/or in the main office! This fundraiser will end on Friday, May 7th.
Dining for Dollars with Celebrity Scoopers Returns to Rita's on May 15! Mark your calendars - Rita's of Vienna will once again donate 20% of its proceeds back to VES on Wednesday, May 15, from 4-8 pm! Come on out, get a yummy Italian ice or gelati, and see our VES Celebrity Scoopers behind the counter helping serve our VES customers! Who will they be this time?? It's still a mystery...and if you have a VES faculty or staff member you'd like to nominate as a Celebrity Scooper, please send their name to Alison French at atorrillo@aol.com.
Summer Reading Program
The LIFT (Literacy is for Tomorrow) summer reading program has a quick turn-around. The deadline to enroll is May 3rd. If enrolled, your child will get to choose 6 books at their level for summer reading. You have recently received an e-notify about this program, and a paper copy of the letter will be sent home in the Wednesday folder next week. Additionally, you may choose to sponsor another child who otherwise may not have the opportunity to do this. All payments are made through MySchoolBucks and the School Store menu tab. Questions: dmdoley@fcps.edu
Student Illnesses and Attendance
If your student is ill with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or a high fever, please keep your students home from school until they are symptom free for 24 hours. This standard is based on the protocols of the Fairfax County Health Department and Fairfax County Public Schools. Students who are feeling well and fully recovered from their illnesses will be ready to fully learn, participate and enjoy their school day. Following these procedures will help to keep our students, classes and teachers healthy and ready for learning. More detailed about attendance and guidance for specific illnesses and circumstances can be found on the FCPS website here.
PTA Sponsored Summer Camps
VES Camp Registration is open and off to a great start! Some camps are already close to selling out, so please remember to log in to Pay4SchoolStuff.com to reserve your spot! Add lunch bunch for the week for $20! A couple corrections to note: Makers Space Camp (Week 2- July 8-12 a.m. session) will be for students in grades rising 2nd-rising 7th, and Classic Games Camp (Week 2- July 8-12 p.m. sesion) will also be for students in grades rising 2nd-rising 7th.
Attendance Reminder
Please email the attendance line for any change in your child's dismissal or absence from school. It is important that you use this email instead of only emailing your child's teacher. If your child's teacher is absent, the office may not know about the dismissal change or attendance notification.
Attendance/Change in Dismissal Email address: ViennaElem.Attendance@fcps.edu
Also, please put your child's first and last name and the name of their classroom teacher. This helps the front office staff.
Thank you!
Walking Wednesday
Walking Wednesday Coordinator needed for next school year 2019-2020. If you enjoy socializing, coffee and promoting activity, this is the volunteer job for you! One hour a week every Wednesday morning. Rope in friends so you have a team and get ready to make VES kids smile every week.
2019-2020 PTA Board Transition
The PTA Board is looking for 5 parents to serve on the Nomination Committee to elect new Board officers for 2019-2020. All board positions will become vacant including President, President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The nomination committee will set up guidelines and begin the search for new officers, with help from the PTA Board. Being on the PTA Board is a great way to gain insight into your child's education, collaborate with parents across grades, get to know families and teachers, and be at the heart of our wonderful community! If you'd like to serve on the nomination committee or as a Board member next year, please contact Rehana Parsons at president@ves-pta.org.
