YoJo visits Cub Run to Talk About SOL Test Taking and Bullying
P2 Strength: Leadership
You value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best.
Dear Parents and Caregivers of Grades 3 – 6 Students,
The following are procedures in which we ensure no students enter their SOL testing environment with ANY electronic devices.
- Before leaving the classroom, students will be reminded that they may not take ANY electronic devices into testing locations. Any devices that students may have brought to school that day (including wearable electronics), must be turned off and stored in their backpack. If backpacks are typically kept in the classroom and the room stands to be used for testing, backpacks will be stored in an alternate location that day. Reminder: Cub Run is not responsible for the loss/theft/damage of any personal items brought to school.
- When students arrive at their testing location for the day, they will again be asked to confirm that they have not brought any electronic devices with them.
- If a student is found to have an electronic device (or other item not permitted in a secure testing environment), the following steps will be taken:
- The device will be immediately confiscated by the teacher or test examiner.
- Whether the test has begun or has not begun, the student will be consulted to determine whether the incident was an accident or intentional. If it was an accident, the student will be permitted to test as-scheduled and their device will be stored in an alternate location. If there is a concern for attempted cheating, the student will be taken to an administrator in the office for further consultation and possible discipline. The student’s device will be handed over to the administrator, who must survey its contents.
- If cheating or attempted cheating is evident, a parent/guardian will be notified, and a report will be filed with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). The student will receive a score of zero on the test and not be permitted to re-take it. The device will be secured until it can be handed over to a parent/guardian. Additional disciplinary action will also be taken; consistent with normal consequences for cheating.
Bus Delay Notification System
The Bus Delay Notification System provides parents with timely notification of late bus route information. Parents may also download the FCPS Mobile App to receive delayed bus reports. Morning route information is available through 12:00 noon, and afternoon route information is available from 1:00 p.m. through 7:00 p.m.
Hat Drive!
Cub Run SCA is sponsoring a Hat Drive all this week! There is a box in the lobby for donations. New hats only, please. All donations will be given to Ellie’s Hats!
Collecting Used Markers!
Preschool will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded again this year. Last year we were able to send 733 markers back to Crayola to be converted into clean fuel!! This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!
Please help support our efforts by donating any used markers you may have around the classroom or house – even non-Crayola brands. Yellow drop-off boxes will be located in each pod by Monday to deposit the markers. Preschoolers will then empty the boxes as needed, count them and send them off! We will be doing this for the entire month of May with our last collection being the first week of June. So get a head start on the EOY packing by getting rid of those dried up markers!
Thank you in advance for participating! There is an editable letter that Crayola generated if you would like to encourage families to send in markers from home as well. It would be fun to beat our number from last year and with our help, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.
If you are interested in reading more about it, check out http://www.crayola.com/colorcycle.aspx
The website has lesson plans and other activities you can do with your class if you are still talking about Earth Day.
Remember, don't throw out that used marker - ColorCycle it!
