Dear CES,
It is hard to believe that we only have 6 more weeks left to the 2018-2019 school year. Next week begins SOL testing, which is a signal that the end of the year is rapidly approaching. We have several end of the year events coming up so please be on the lookout for flyers and e-mails with details. We are so proud of our students!
2019-2020 Class Placement Survey
We greatly value parent feedback and we recognize that class placements are an essential component of a successful learning environment.
In June of this year we will be working on our class placements for the 2019-2020 school year and will be collecting parent input electronically using this form. Please know that selecting class placements at CES is a complex process which requires the collaboration of administrators, teachers, and input from our parents. For this reason, please know that all information submitted on this form will be shared with the administrators, classroom teachers, and specialists.
Click HERE for the Class Placement Survey.
All feedback must be submitted by June 1.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this form, and we will reference this information to help us make an informed class placement decision.

Did you know?
CES will host a whole school success night on Thursday, June 6th from 6:00 - 7:00. Students and teachers will share the wonderful accomplishments made this year. Come visit your child's classroom to celebrate all of their hard work and effort. Specialists will congregate in a central location, to allow parents/guardians to learn about student successes in all subject areas.
What Should Students Do With Cell Phones and Other Personal Devices During SOL Tests?
- Fairfax County Public Schools has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy that allows students to use their own personal electronic devices (such as laptops, tablets, and cell phones) during the school day to enhance learning. At the same time, FCPS has an obligation to guarantee a secure test environment during Standards of Learning (SOL) testing.
- The Virginia Department of Education requires that schools restrict student access to cell phones and other personal electronic devices during SOL tests. These restrictions are designed to maintain test security and to minimize potential distractions while students are taking tests.

This past week our students focused on:
PURPOSE
WHAT DOES PURPOSE MEAN?
This strength means that you have beliefs about the meaning of life and your life’s purpose. You seek to be part of something greater than yourself. People who possess a sense of purpose believe that they are somehow connected with humanity or the universe -- and that they were put on earth for a reason. That reason can have all kinds of variety. It could be to create a unique invention, to bring joy through art or music, or to raise their children to become good people. These people have a true calling.
One of the most insightful and impactful researchers of this strength was Viktor Frankl, the author of Man’s Search for Meaning. Frankl analyzed and wrote about his experiences in Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. Frankl’s experiences taught him that purpose provides strength and that “Those who have a ‘why’ to life, can bear with almost any ‘how’.”
Thank you for your continued partnership!
