A Note From Principal Eck

"Always find a reason to laugh. It may not add years to your life but will surely add life to your years ." - Unknown

Dear Justice Families,

We had another successful prom on Friday night and the staff at Army Navy Country Club commented again this year about how respectful and thoughtful our students are. They make us proud! A huge shout out to the Justice staff who came out to support the set up and clean up, and chaperoned during the dance. It was a lovely night all around.

With end-of-the-year tests fast approaching, this week, our staff and students will participate in a fun and active Stress Less, Laugh More Week! Every day has its own theme to help students think about and prepare for the end of year stresses of school.

Spirit Days are as follows:

  • Mellow Monday - Dress up in sweatpants
  • Sunshine Tuesday - Wear yellow
  • Workout Wednesday - Wear fitness/workout gear
  • Superhero Thursday - Dress up as a superhero or wear a superhero t-shirt
  • Friday Spirit Wear - Show school spirit by wearing your favorite Justice Wolves gear

Have a happy Sunday! We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Positivity Project

With it being the last P2 lesson leading into the SOLs, we are focusing on the "Other People Matter" mindset. Classes will discuss the importance of celebrating others and students will write thank you notes to teachers in anticipation of teacher appreciation week.

Honor Roll

The 3rd quarter honor roll ceremony for “All A” student recipients will be in the auditorium on Monday, April 29th during Wolf Time from 10:42-11:12 a.m. Parents are invited to attend, however the ceremony will be brief. Students will view a live fine arts presentation and hear some words of wisdom from a staff guest speaker. Once the ceremony ends, students can grab a donut!

SOL Testing Information

Our 2nd Super Saturday was a success this weekend and we will have two more sessions of May 4th and May 11th so that students may receive test prep leading up to SOLs. This week during Wolf Time students will receive information about our upcoming SOL testing window. SOL schedules will be sent to student fcpsschools.net email accounts by April 30th. Please encourage your child to review their schedule and contact their counselor or Ms. Terry in H-135 if they have any questions.

During the SOL window from May 6th – May 17th our bell schedule will change. During SOL’s the first block of the day is longer (125 minutes) and there is no return time. On four days we will begin the day with 6th or 7th period and will end with 1st or 2nd period (flip-flop schedule). This is done to balance instructional time so that students don't always miss the same class if testing. All students MUST bring their school-issued laptop and charger to each SOL test.  Students cannot use their own personal laptops. We will have computers and chargers in all test locations for all students on the Opt-out List who do not have school-issued laptops or chargers.

No personal electronic device is allowed in the testing room (this includes: iPads, smartwatches with internet/camera, cell phones, and any other device that beeps or makes sound). Students are encouraged to get a good night’s sleep on the night before their tests and to eat breakfast on the morning of their tests.

It is also important to note that the morning attendance telephone calls, texts and e-mails for reporting student absences will not occur for middle and high schools during AP, IB and SOL testing from Monday, April 29, 2019 through Friday, June 7, 2019. Students involved in testing are often in designated testing sites within the school during the normal attendance-taking time, so morning attendance notifications will be suspended. The evening attendance notifications will remain in place.

Updates for Seniors

Future Signing Day - May 1st

May 1 is National College Decision Day, the deadline for seniors to pick their college. We will be celebrating this special day on Wednesday during all lunches where seniors will be invited to grab a donut and share with us their post high school plans to help create a fun bulletin board which will showcase the accomplishments of our seniors.

Senior Surveys

This week, our seniors will complete the Senior Survey process in which they indicate their post high school plans, including which college they will be attending and where Justice HS will send their final transcript. Students will also indicate if they would like their post-high school plans included in the graduation issue of the "The Verdict" and they will provide feedback on Student Services programming. Counselors will be following up with students who do not complete the survey this week.

Community Service Hours Senior Deadline  - May 3rd

Service hours for seniors must be logged in x2VOL by May 3rd to be eligible for the Service Learning Cord to wear at graduation (40 hour requirement) or for the Board of Education's Excellence in Civics Education Seal (50 hour requirement, in addition to other criteria) on the diploma. Students may access their x2VOL account through their Family Connection account (accessed through Blackboard). Once in Family Connection, on the left side of the screen under resources, students can click “x2VOL” . The first time students use the program, they will need to complete their profile.

Graduation Week Updates

By now, parents of seniors should have received the Senior Letter which was sent via US Mail. If you did not receive your copy, please reach out to your child’s counselor. Due to the timing of Eid al-Fitr, we have made some adjustments to the activities which will take place during graduation week. The mandatory convocation and graduation rehearsal will now take place on Tuesday, June 4th at 2:00 pm and will be preceded by the senior picnic at 12:30 pm. The senior check out has been moved to Wednesday, June 5th from 11:00 am -3:00 pm. Students who will be observing Eid al-Fitr may contact their counselor to request a check out appointment time on Monday, June 3rd. All requests must be submitted by Friday, May 10th. The remaining activities for the week will occur as schedule. Requests for accessible seating at Convocation for individuals with disabilities and their companion can be made through the student’s counselor.
