Our fabulous Band teacher and students ready for their Spring Concert!
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe that we are already one week into the 4th quarter! It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming new students and seeing old friends again at open house. Our students have come far this year and as all grades dive head first into testing, we are proud to see how much our children have learned and how greatly they have grown.
We have had another wonderful week of music and celebration. Congratulations to all our band students on their excellent concerts. Under the direction of our band director, Mrs. Deni Cunningham, students shared pieces that were not only complicated and intricate for this age, but also well-executed. It’s not often you find such talent in one school!
Yesterday, our 5th graders took part in their GATP Exposition (Global Awareness Technology Project). It is a comprehensive learning opportunity assigned to all FCPS 5th grades that encourages communication and collaboration between students as they work together to research interrelationships and interdependence between ancient and modern cultures, and use technology to research, create and present their findings. Each group focused on one of eight essential global awareness questions, pertaining to geography, government, art, math and science, as well as how cultures change over time. Students presented their findings to parents, administrators and their classmates. It was evident that students learned so much and were able to utilize several Portrait of a Graduate Skills that they have learned.

Rising 6th Grader? Immunization Requirement
Will your child be a sixth grader next year? If so, they most likely will need a booster dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis). Sixth grade students cannot begin school in August without documentation of having had the Tdap booster. Parents or guardians of current fifth graders, please check your child’s immunization records and make arrangements with your doctor for the immunization. Documentation confirming receipt of the vaccination must be turned into the office before your child can start school on August 26th, 2019.

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 6th-10th
Teacher Appreciation Week will be held May 6th - 10th. Look out for more information from your Room Parent. Highlights will include Monday's PTA-sponsored lunch from Luigi's, Wednesday's Floris Administration-sponsored barbecue lunch. Not to mention Froyo Friday!
