Franklin Sherman second graders have been working hard in Series Book Clubs! They are becoming experts on the characters by collecting information from multiple books in a series. The students are also paying attention to the author’s craft. They have been noticing how authors paint pictures with their words. The book clubs are a great way for the second graders to practice listening and speaking skills. They are definitely having fun discussing the books together.
We are excited to share that our school is next to receive a new playground from FCPS. There is a process to update playgrounds to ensure student safety. Our school is receiving all new equipment. The work began last week and is anticipated to last approximately 30 days, weather permitting. If you would like to see the plans for the new playground, please join us at the PTA meeting on Wednesday, May 1.
The Spring Book Fair is taking place April 29 through May 2 in the FSES library.
Everyone loves a great book fair, but we need your help to make it a success! If you are able to volunteer, please sign up at:

The next PTA meeting is Wednesday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Franklin Sherman cafeteria. Free babysitting will be provided in the gym for children three years of age and older. PTA meetings are a great way to learn about upcoming PTA activities, meet other parents, find ways to get involved, and hear updates from the school administration.
A guest speaker will join us at this meeting to talk about vaping. Brian Maslowski, a tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs seminar instructor from Fairfax County Public Schools, will discuss e-cigarettes. He will cover how e-cigarettes work, how they are different from cigarettes, and why they are harmful to youth.
The FSES Annual Carnival is Sunday, May 5, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the fields behind Franklin Sherman Elementary School.
Tickets are on sale! Click below to purchase today!

This spring, the SOL non-writing window will have a significant overlap with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month marked by daily fasting from sunrise to sunset. If this impacts your child, please contact Tim Stanley, Interim Assistant Principal, at tastanley@fcps.edu, so he can work with you to create a plan to best address your child's needs. Thank you.
SOL testing season is approaching, and we want you to be aware of the testing dates for your planning purposes. Please keep these dates in mind as you schedule doctor appointments, trips, etc. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
