Staff Appreciation Week 2019

Staff Appreciation Week is taking place next week, May 6-10.  The Oak Hill Elementary PTA has been hard at work planning a week of festivities to honor the teachers and staff of Oak Hill Elementary.  The theme of this year's celebration is "Wellness" and each day there will be small events to help the teachers and staff nourish their minds and bodies, whether its with healthy food, snacks, lunch, or wellness enrichment workshops including yoga and painting.

We are still in need of a few parent volunteers to help execute the events on-site during the week of festivities.  To volunteer, please sign up via this link: Parent Volunteers for Staff Appreciation Week

Back-to-School Night and Open House Information

For the upcoming 2019-2020 school year, we will be changing the format of our Back-to-School Night and Open House.  Teachers and parents have requested to receive information prior to school starting in order for students to be successful starting on day one.  Also, both of these events provide a similar purpose, so in an effort to make things more streamlined and efficient, we will be combining the events. We are joining many of our Chantilly Pyramid schools, as well as many FCPS schools in doing so.  We would love some feedback from parents on the best format to combine these two events.  Our Open House and BTSN will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019.  Your child is coming home with a flyer in their Wednesday folder today.  Please take a look at the flyer and scan the QR code to give us feedback via a google form by Friday, May 10, 2019.

STEAM Night

Oak Hill's STEAM Night was a huge success!

Bike to School Day

Oak Hill and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will participate in Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 8, to promote physical activity and reduce traffic congestion and pollution near schools.

May is National Bike Month. Biking helps us feel energized, engage with our neighbors, and reduce our carbon footprint. Not only does biking to school help foster lifelong healthy habits, but it can also encourage active transportation in the early-life stage. Starting the school day with a bike ride, walk, or roll will ensure that students are awake and ready to learn.

A friendly reminder that bicycle helmets must be worn and safety traffic regulations followed. Bicycles can only be stored in the designated bicycle stands on each side of the building and must be secured by a lock provided by the student.

Pedal It Out

Dogfish Head Alehouse in Fairfax is hosting Pedal it Out on May 21 from 11:30am - 11:00pm.  Dogfish will donate 15% of all proceeds to Pedal it Out.  This will benefit Osteosarcoma Collaborative in support of Reed Morgan and families experiencing Childhood Cancer through The Nancy Smith Kabance Grant.  For more information visit www.dogfishalehouse.com.  We will send the flyer home the Wednesday before in case you are interested in supporting this fundraiser.

RCMS 101

Rachel Carson Middle School will hold an optional, fee-based, summer orientation program for rising 7th graders who will attend RCMS this Fall.  This two day program will offer students a brief overview of middle school life at Carson.  For information about dates, registration, and cost please click here.

She is pictured here with her former teacher, Ms. Wright, and with her brother Anik Singh who is currently a student in Ms. Wright's class. Congratulations, Ria!!!
