Glasgow Community:
I hope you had a relaxing Spring Break. My parents we in town this week. Claire, Regan, my dad and I traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina to Carowinds Amusement Park to ride their new roller coaster, Copperhead Strike. On Thursday, we joined the thousands of tourists and visited the National Zoo. I hope you and your students enjoyed time relaxing and recharging before the final eight weeks of school!
This week we will celebrate the end of the 3rd quarter with Open Campus. Special thanks to Stephanie Earl for leading this event, which is a great tradition as it builds community as a school, allows students and staff to find fun ways interact outside our normal routines, and is a way to celebrate all the good behaviors happening around the school. Thanks also to those of you who donated supplies to make the activities possible! If you don't know about Open Campus at Glasgow, check out this video.
Please note that 3rd quarter report cards will be distributed to students on Monday afternoon. If you have any questions about your student's grades, please contact your student’s counselor. Here is a link to our Student Services website: https://glasgowms.fcps.edu/student-services.
Finally, it is hard to believe but we are only 11 days away from the start of SOL testing. These tests can be one of many important opportunities for students to demonstrate the learning they have done this school year. On days when they have a test, we encourage students to get a good night’s rest, eat breakfast and come to school ready to show what they know! You can find the schedule below.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Important Information
SOL Scheduling Considerations for Ramadan - This spring, the SOL non-writing window will have significant overlap with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month marked by daily fasting from sunrise to sunset. There are only two expedited retake days at the end of the window that fall completely outside this religious observance, all other test dates within this observance.
* Ramadan 2019 begins the evening of Sunday, May 5 and ends with Eid-al-Fitr on Wednesday, June 5.
* The middle school SOL non-writing window begins Monday, May 6, with all retakes completed by Friday, June 7.
At Glasgow, all SOL sessions are scheduled in the morning for every student. Parents may request that their student test earlier in the window before several days of fasting have passed. All request for early testing should be submitted to our school testing coordinator, Sarah N’Guessan, by April 29. Also, if your student qualifies for an expedited retake and you would prefer your student tests on June 6 or June 7 rather than the scheduled date of the retake, please contact Sarah N’Guessan as soon as you are notified that your student qualified for a retake. Ms. N’Guessan can be contacted by email at senguessan@fcps.edu.
