Standards of Learning Test Schedules for Students Observing Ramadan

This year, the main Standards of Learning (SOL) testing window has significant overlaps with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month marked by daily fasting. The SOL testing window begins for high schools on Monday, April 29, and for elementary and middle schools on Monday, May 6. All schools must complete SOL make-up tests and retakes by Friday, June 7. Ramadan begins the evening of Sunday, May 5, and ends with Eid-al-Fitr on Wednesday, June 5.

FCPS welcomes and encourages engagement with parents and guardians of students affected by this overlap. School staff will work with parents and guardians to make schedule adjustments or determine how best to address students’ needs. For example, it may be possible to schedule testing early in the day when energy levels are likely to be highest.

If you have a child in an SOL grade-level who will be fasting to observe Ramadan this year, notify the principal or school counselor to take advantage of possible scheduling options.

View more ideas and tips to prepare for upcoming testing during Ramadan.

SOL Season - Personal Electronic Devices are Prohibited

As SOL season is approaching, we want to remind families that electronic personal devices of any kind (phones, watches, etc.) are prohibited inside the SOL testing environment.

Please be aware that any personal devices carried into the testing environment will be subject to the school’s established procedures for addressing this as a test security concern.  In past instances, a student’s access to a personal device in the testing environment has been identified as attempted cheating, please don’t let this happen to you!

Let’s work together to create a positive and safe testing environment for everyone.

For the full testing schedule, please visit the Woodson Testing Calendar site.

Frost ESOL students

Frost MS ESOL students and teachers visited Woodson for a freshman transition program.  They took a tour of the building and had a Q&A session with current WTW ESOL students.

Sports Physicals for 2019-2020

Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for the 2019-2020 school year.  The first step toward eligibility to participate in any preseason or afterschool athletic event is to complete a sports physical on an official VHSL Pre-participation Physical Examination (PPE) form (only version FEB2017 will be accepted).

The Woodson High School Athletic Training Department will be offering sports physicals at Woodson High School on Monday, June 10th. This successfully completed physical will be good for all sports and out of season practices (green days, yellow days, weight room workouts) for the 2019-2020 school year.

This event is a fundraiser for the Woodson High School Athletic Training Department and goes to support the athletes at Woodson High School.  The cost of the physical is $50 when you register online

We are always looking for medical and non-medical volunteers to assist us for the event. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Mr. Hogge at chogge@fcps.edu, or click on the registration link to sign up.

Don’t forget the student and parent concussion education must also be completed annually!!

Virtual Virginia 2019 Summer Session

The Virginia Department of Education reminds school divisions that registration for the Virtual Virginia 2019 summer session is now open and closes on Thursday, June 13th.  More than 51 core and elective online courses will be offered.  You may reference Section VI. B.2. of Regulation 2408 for clarity regarding Virtual Virginia courses as a summer option for FCPS students.  Please note that FCPS does not support the use of parent mentors for Virtual Virginia courses.

School Nutrition Account

Please remember to add money to your child's school nutrition account.  All accounts must be brought current before the end of the school year in June.  Account balances can be found on MySchoolBucks.

Course Requests for 2019-2020

All students have had an opportunity to complete academic advising for the 2019-2020 school year. Staffing for next year’s courses is dependent on student course selections.

To ensure that we have accurate course registration numbers, please review your child’s requested schedule in SIS ParentVue or StudentVue (click “Course Request” on the menu on the left hand side).

Contact your child’s school counselor by email with any schedule change requests.  Please do this as soon as possible.  If no changes are needed, you do not need to contact the counselor.  If your child applied for an academy class, he/she will be notified of the academy’s decision in the beginning of April.  If accepted, course changes, including adding the academy class to your child’s course request list, will be made at that time.  Friday, May 31st will be the last day to make course selection changes for the 2019-2020 school year.
