Enjoy Your Spring Break!

Dear Key MS Families,

Happy Friday! We hope everyone has a joyous and safe Spring Break. We anticipate students being rejuvenated and ready to finish up strong when we return on Monday, April 22nd. We are just getting started with the 4th quarter and we are coming up on our testing season soon. The testing dates are listed further down on this correspondence for information purposes.

SOL Scheduling Considerations for Ramadan (Middle)

This spring, the SOL non-writing window will have significant overlap with Ramadan, the Muslim holy month marked by daily fasting from sunrise to sunset. Only two days at the end of the expedited retake window fall completely outside this religious observance.

  • Ramadan 2019 begins the evening of Sunday, May 5 and ends with Eid-al-Fitr on Wednesday, June 5.
  • The middle school SOL non-writing window begins Monday, May 6, with all retakes completed by Friday, June 7.

Our Spring SOLs will begin the week of May 13th.  It is important to avoid making appointments when your child’s test is scheduled.  Students will receive printed testing schedules during the week of May 6th.  All regular testing begins around 7:45 AM each morning.  Below are the dates for testing:

Tardiness and Hall Sweeps

We have a growing number of students that are arriving late to class. In order to discourage tardiness we are having multiple hall sweeps each day. If a student is caught in a sweep without an excused tardy pass they will be assigned a consequence by an administrator. Please take a moment to encourage your student to get to all of their classes on time and support our efforts to continue with a positive school culture and learning environment here at Key MS.

Yearbooks - 2018-2019:  ARE NOW $35  Have your student bring a check made out to Key MS or cash to Ms. Kendall in room 136 any time!  Yearbooks are released the last week of school and no students wants to be without one!

Kiss-N-Ride Procedures: Students should be dropped off only on the Franconia Rd side of the building in the morning. We are having safety concerns with students being dropped off in front of the main entrance and cars making illegal U turns in front of entrance #1. We have staff and students walking in the area and we want to keep that area safe for everyone.

Key MS Pencil Drive: Looking to help Key MS? Please consider donating pencils. New and gently used pencils can be brought to the main office. We will then distribute these to our staff.  Got Questions? Email Mr. Fred Amico: ffamico@fcps.edu
