Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Level II/Level III Screening
For more information, please refer to the Spring Advanced Academic Screening Newsletter in this week’s Thursday folder.
Fairfax County Public School offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in grades K-8. Learning experiences are designed to develop high-level thinking through enrichment, acceleration, and extensions of the Program of Studies. Teachers, administrators, and the advanced academic resource teachers work together to provide various levels of school based services in each elementary school.
Screening for school-based services can happen at any time during the school year, however, we complete schoolwide screening in spring to determine services for the next school year. Parents or guardians of students currently in grades K-5 may initiate the screening for school-based services by submitting the AAP School-Based Services (Level II-III) Referral Form to the Sangster Elementary Academic Resource Teacher, Mandy Rice, by Friday, May 3, 2019. Multiple criteria are used to screen students for all levels of AAP services including: parent information, CogAt and NNAT scores, SOL scores, work samples, as well as teacher input. If you have any questions please refer to the information sent out in Thursday folders or contact Mandy Rice by email at mprice@fcps.edu. The Level II/III Screening Form can be found at: http://bit.ly/sangsterspringscreening
School Nutrition Accounts
Please remember to add money to your child’s school nutrition account. All accounts must be brought current before the end of the school year in June.
Communicable Illness
In an effort to help keep our students healthy, we would appreciate it if you would let the school know if your child has a communicable illness. You can do this by calling Ms. Fuller, our school’s health aid, or leaving the name of the illness (flu-like symptoms, strep throat) on the attendance line when you call in an absence. The other thing you can do that will make a significant impact on the spread of illness at Sangster is to keep your children at home until they are no longer contagious and are well enough to fully participate in all school activities.
New Student Registration
We are now accepting registrations for school year 2019-20 for all new students. Please call 703-644-8203 to set up an appointment asap. Registration packets may be picked up in the school front office during school hours.
Student Placements for 2019-2020
While it is still early to be thinking ahead to next year, we want to give you information about class placements for the 2019-20 school-year ahead of time. The staff at Sangster work hard to place students in an optimal learning situation each year. If you have some information that would help us make those decisions, please send your comments in writing to Ms. Reddel by June 1st. Please do not list teacher names. Rather, describe the learning environment in which your child learns best.
Positivity Project - Week of April 29th
This week students are learning about Purpose and Connection. Purpose and Connection: You have beliefs about the meaning of life and your life’s purpose. You seek to be something greater than yourself. Please be sure to ask your student what they are learning about.
Next week classes will be learning about Leadership.
