Purple Up, Willow Springs!
 Why purple? Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue. This year, Purple Up day will be celebrated on April 10.
We recognize and thank children from military families for the sacrifices they make living the military lifestyle. Wednesday, April 10 is “PURPLE UP! for Military Kids.” All school staff and students are encouraged to wear purple tomorrow in recognition of the strength and sacrifices of military connected youth (MCY). We thank each and every one of our military families for their sacrifice and service.

No School for Students Next Week!

Spirit Night Success
Thank you so much to everyone who made it out for our Spirit Night last Thursday. We had a fantastic evening of fun and entertainment. All of our players deserve a massive round of applause for the exciting back and forth battle. We also want to congratulate our students for their amazing performances. Thank you to our Fox Ensemble for their beautiful rendition of the National Anthem as well as our performers from the Jump Rope Team, Jump Rope Club, and Zumba Club.
Restaurant Week
Don’t forget to turn in your itemized receipts from Glory Days last week. Any meal you ate from Glory Days between April 1-8th will earn our school a percentage of your purchase.
Silent Auction Donation Request
Plans are underway for one of our most significant fundraising events of the year – the Willow Springs 22nd Annual Silent Auction! The Silent Auction will take place from April 26th to May 3rd and will be entirely online.
Do you have a small business and want to donate to the auction? Willow Springs PTA loves to support local businesses, and your contributions would be tax deductible.
Please contact Nayyiara Siddiqui at willowspringssa@gmail.com for more details! Even if you don’t have a company or goods to donate, but would like to help find donors or have connections to businesses that may wish to contribute, we would love to hear from you. Last year the Willow Springs Silent Auction brought in over $8,000 for the PTA, and we hope to beat that number this year. Any assistance that you can provide would be sincerely appreciated.
World Festival
Our big event is planned for Friday, May 10th at 6:00 p.m.
Our World Festival planners need your help! They are looking for families (or groups of families) to sponsor booths from all of the diverse countries our students represent. If you or your child are interested in hosting a booth, dancing, participating in the fashion show, singing, or would like additional information, please sign up before Friday, April 19th.

Kindergarten Registration Now Open for 2019-20 School Year! |
If you have a child who will reach the age of five on or before September 30, 2019, they are eligible to attend kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year. If your child meets the age requirement and lives within the boundaries of Willow Springs Elementary School they may be registered at this time. Please sign up for a registration appointment. Forms and documents required for registration can be found through this link (scroll down to Student Registration) to the Willow Springs website. Student registrations have a direct impact on teacher staffing so the sooner registrations take place the better able we are to staff accordingly. WSES SOL Testing Schedule
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests are required of all students in Grades 3-8 across the state by the Virginia Department of Education. SOL tests measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills specified in the Virginia SOLs. In order to assist your spring planning, the SOL schedule is listed below. Please avoid appointments that will take your child out of school during testing. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Family Engagement Survey
FCPS is seeking input on how we're doing.
Please check your email for a link to FCPS' Family Engagement Survey. Your input on how our schools can best engage with you, as we prepare your children for college and beyond, is essential!
The survey will be available between March 24 - April 12, 2019.
Here are the ways you can complete the survey.
- Check your email after March 24 for an invitation with a survey link from Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent with subject line: FCPS Family Engagement Survey.
- Ask the front office staff for a paper survey. You can complete it right there on the spot.
- Complete the online survey using one of the school computers. The office staff would be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically at the school.
