LONGFELLOW CHORUS SINGS FOR HONOR FLIGHT

Longfellow choruses went to Reagan National Airport on Wednesday, April 10 to sing for an Honor Flight from Knoxville, Tennessee. Some 85 veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam were flown to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. The event was a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their musical abilities in our community and honor men and women who have served the United States in time of war.
“Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill. Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free society. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day. Our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.”

LONGFELLOW STUDENTS TO LEARN CPR

Devastated by the loss of their daughter, Gwyneth Griffin, the Griffins were able to pass Gwyneth’s Law in Virginia in 2013, which consisted of three parts:
1. Public school teachers must be trained in CPR.
2. CPR is a high school graduation requirement.
3. All public schools must have an AED on site.
Many middle schoolers do not know this life-saving skill. Anisha Talreja has organized an event for Longfellow students to learn CPR administration on May 1, 2019. Parents and other adults in the community are needed to help with the undertaking of training all of our students. To sign up, simply click the link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050d44aeaa2fa2f49-cprprogram. Feel free to email Anisha Talreja at cpr.longfellow@gmail.com.

DONATE GIFT CARDS TO SHOW OUR TEACHERS HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE THEM

Teacher Appreciation Week is the week of May 6th-10th. The teacher appreciation team has several fun events planned throughout the week, including thanking each teacher with a gift card. Principal Kihm raffles them off throughout the week. The students love it when their teachers' name is called over the loudspeaker to come to get their gift card.   We need your help now to collect enough gift cards for the 140 teachers, staff, and bus drivers at LMS. Please sign up here to donate a gift card today. Place gift cards in an envelope marked “For Teacher Appreciation Week” and drop them off in the LMS PTA “Longfellow Love” mailbox on or before Friday, April 26.
