Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize the contributions and sacrifices of children whose parents serve or have served in the military. We have several activities throughout the month to honor your child.

First, we'd like to feature your child on our Hollin Meadows Wall of Honor.  Please bring in a photo of your military family and drop it off in the parent resource office so that we can post it on our Salute to Miliary Kids banner in the lobby.  

Second, we'd love to provide your child with the opportunity to be on the HMES morning news program.  Your child or your whole family could lead the school in the pledge of allegiance or briefly share with the school what it means to be a military child or family.  If you or your child are interested in being on the HMES news, please let us know by emailing Eileen Gorman at hmptapresident@gmail.com and we'll get you scheduled for your appearance!

Third, HMES will have our own Purple Up day on Wednesday, April 10. All students, teachers and staff will wear purple that day to show their support for military children.

Lastly, on Tuesday, April 23rd, from 0800-0820, the PTA would love to host you and your military family in the library for donuts, coffee/juice and other breakfast treats.  We will also provide your child with a Virginia Department of Education certificate of appreciation.

We are proud of our HMES military families and we hope you and your child will participate in our Month of the Military Child activities!

Family Engagement Survey: We Need Your Voice

On March 24^th, you received an invitation from Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools to participate in the 2019 FCPS Family Engagement Survey! 

We would love for you to complete the survey so that we can know how we are doing in the areas of:

• Communicating
• Providing you opportunities to partner.
• Developing positive relationships.
• Ensuring student success and more   

The survey is available through Friday, April 12^th.

The information we learn from you will help us strengthen family engagement and continue fostering a Caring Culture throughout FCPS.

 There are 3 ways you can complete the survey.

1. Check your email for an invitation with a survey link from Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent with subject line: FCPS Family Engagement Survey.
2. Ask the front office staff for a paper survey. You can complete it right there on the spot.
3. Complete the online survey using one of the school computers.The office staff would be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically at the school.

Earth Day - Saturday, April 27

Now that the construction is complete, our annual  Earth Day celebration is back!  Please come out for a day of service and community building on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Work in our outdoor education spaces and gardens, plant, mulch, paint and get our outdoor spaces ready to bloom. The grill will be open to provide a free lunch.
