IB LEARNER PROFILE OF THE MONTH: Principled

principled

So far this year, we have learned about seven IB Learner Profile attributes.  We are excited to learn about the attribute of principled during the month of April.  This month, we will focus and reflect on being principled throughout our day.

As principled individuals we:

              *act with integrity and honesty

*have a strong sense of fairness and justice

*have respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere

*take responsibility for our actions and their consequences

Here are some ideas to promote the attribute of principled at home:

  1. Discuss taking responsibility for your actions with your child at home.
  2. Work with your child to develop a game or activity and create the rules.  Ensure that your child sticks to the rules that they developed initially.
  3. Encourage your child to participate in a game or activity that involves teams.  Discuss the qualities of a team player.  What qualities would they want their teammate to demonstrate?
  4. At the end of a game, encourage your child to say “thank you for playing” or “nice job” regardless if they win or lose.

Here are some books that can support the conversation of being principled:

FCPS Values Your Opinion

On March 24th, you received an invitation from Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools to participate in the 2019 FCPS Family Engagement Survey!

We would love for you to complete the survey letting us know how we are doing in the areas of:

  •         Communicating.
  •         Providing you opportunities to partner.
  •         Developing positive relationships.
  •         Ensuring student success and more.

The survey will be available between March 24th- April 12th.

The information we learn from you will help us strengthen family engagement and continue fostering a Caring Culture throughout FCPS.

There are 3 ways you can complete the survey.

  1. Check your email after March 24 for an invitation with a survey link from Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent with subject line: FCPS Family Engagement Survey.
  2. Ask the front office staff for a paper survey. You can complete it right there on the spot.
  3. Complete the online survey using one of the school computers. The office staff would be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically at the school.

We honor your opinion and commitment to your child and our schools. We strive to make it a better place for ALL!

For more information, please contact your child’s school.

Thank you in advance!

Reading is Fundamental (RIF)

The week of April 8-12 is RIF Week.  Each student will select a free book and participate in an activity during their Library time.  These books have been purchased through Reading Is Fundamental due to the generous funding of Navient Corporation.  Navient has been our RIF supporter for more than 10 years. In addition to financially supporting our RIF program, Navient sends volunteers to help with our activities.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to “shop” for a free book to keep at home to read and enjoy.  Next week be sure to ask your child about their RIF book.
