BEAUTY AND THE BEAST:
SCMS Theater will present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast musical on April 3rd through April 6th.
Each performance will be at 7:00 p.m. and doors will open at 6:30 p.m. We encourage you to purchase your tickets ahead of time at www.itickets.com Tickets are $8 and will be sold at the door as well.
COLLEGE FINANCIAL AWARENESS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENTS:
This event is designed to provide middle school parents with a “30,000 feet” view of the basics of post-secondary education funding and financial aid, Virginia529 college savings plans and resources available through FCPS. College Access Fairfax offers several sessions in various FCPS schools during March and April. Families can register by going to the College Access Fairfax website (www.collegeaccessfairfax.org) and going to their calendar page. For questions, please don’t hesitate to email them at info@collegeaccessfairfax.org. South County Middle School’s date is Monday, April 8th at 7:00 pm.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM – NEW SPRING PROGRAMS:
- As we gear up for our Annual South County Middle School verse Lake Braddock Secondary School Basketball Game the after school program will host tryouts/evaluations for our girls team on Thursday April 4th during the after school program. All 7th and 8th girls are welcomed to participate. For more information please contact Mr. Woodby at cwwoodby@fcps.edu. The SCMS vs LBSS game is scheduled for Friday May 31st at South County High School.
- SCMS Jr. Golf Program- Our Jr. Golf Program will resume beginning April 4th. We will continue to use Laurel Hill Golf Club. The program will run every Thursday until the end of May as long as the weather cooperates. If you have any questions please contact Chris Woodby at cwwoodby@fcps.edu.
CULTURAL HERITAGE NIGHT:
Come and celebrate South County Middle School’s third annual Cultural Night Heritage event on Thursday, April 25 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Our community of students will come together to celebrate their heritage in a variety of ways:
- Sample authentic, international cuisine in the cafeteria
- Participate in a Cultural Street Fair in the gym:
- listen to cultural music from our Percussion Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, and Jazz Band
- Interact with students’ world language projects
- Face painting and henna designs
- World Cup penalty goals
- View interactive, family heritage interdisciplinary projects in the lecture hallYou can participate in a variety of ways by sharing an artifact of cultural significance or wearing your traditional clothing. FAMILY ENGAGEMENT SURVEY:
- Survey administration is scheduled for March 24-April 12, 2019. We look forward to hearing from you!
- Fairfax County Public Schools are conducting a survey to gather information about family engagement in our schools. Relationships are important to us, and your opinion is critical to help us support your engagement in your child’s education. Your feedback will also help us determine how well we are reaching the goals for Caring Culture we have set in our Strategic Plan. Survey translations will be made available, and the survey can be taken on electronic devices, including smartphones.

SOUTH COUNTY MINORITY ACHIEVEMENT COMMITTEE:
South County MAC provides FREE tutoring for all core subjects. Our next session is April 6th from 10 am- 1 pm. We will have a special Paying for College program presented by College Access Fairfax at 11 am. The Paying for College program is designed to give a 30,000 foot view of the financial aid process. Topics to be covered include the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), types of financial aid, scholarships, loans, definitions of frequently used terms, and timelines. Material is provided for additional resources. This program is designed for underclassmen.
South County MAC events are open to all SCHS and SCMS students and parents! We invite parents and students of all backgrounds and demographics to join and attend MAC events. If you are interested or need additional information regarding MAC please contact us at SouthCountyMAC@gmail.com.
