As we get ready to celebrate The Month of the Military Child (MOMC) I wanted to make you aware of some resources and events happening in recognition of our military students and families.
Dr. Brabrand’s featured school visit this week is Orange Hunt ES where Principal Karen Tuttle and some of her military connected students talk with Dr. Brabrand and Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander COL Greenberg about life in the military. The video would be great to share on your morning news program – it came out in the Monday, April 1st News You Choose..
We also have a playlist of videos of military connected students talking about their experiences - please consider showing the videos on your morning news show throughout the month. The first video on the playlist is a promotional video that is only one minute long. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSz76NCRDYQHKnS6E-qeC3Cl-ZdqBT-jc There are sample interview questions on the intranet site you may use to highlight some of your military students on your morning news program.
The internet site has information for families: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/military-families
The intranet site has lots of resources and a certificate from Dr. Brabrand that can be awarded to your military connected students: http://fcpsnet.fcps.edu/ssse/ips/military/
On April 4th the School Board will recognize our military students and their families at the School Board meeting beginning at 7 pm at Luther Jackson MS. Please invite your military students and families to attend, be recognized, and have their picture taken with Dr. Brabrand and our School Board.
April 10th is PURPLE UP Day – learn more on the website!
Visit the website to learn more about our 14 PURPLE STAR schools and how to join this special group.
As a member of the FCPS Military Connected Youth Process Action Team, I invite you to share pictures of your celebration on the intranet site for all to enjoy. Also, please let me know if you have questions or suggestions regarding services to our military connected students and families. As you share on social media, please use: #PURPLEUPFCPS and #PURPLEUPVIRGINIA
Thank you for recognizing this special group of students.
