Thanks to all the GBW teachers and students who presented to the community during our Spotlight on Learning Event in the Chantilly Pyramid last Thursday!
On behalf of the Chantilly Pyramid, we wanted to thank all our teachers, students and community members for taking time out of their busy schedules to join us last week for our Spotlight on Student Learning! The packed house was able to learn about what students and teachers are doing each day in the classroom with and without technology, hear the students perspective, and learn ways to support their family at home.
If you missed the event but would like to get a glimpse into what our learning looks like and hear the student perspective, please check out this video. You can also visit the event website for further resources. To learn more about FCPSOn and Portrait of a Graduate please visit the FCPS website.
Lastly, we would also love to hear from you. If you were able to attend, please provide us feedback and fill out this short form. THANK YOU!

Assists with Class Placement
In today's Thursday Folder, please look for a special “light blue” colored survey letter to parents. This survey letter gives you the opportunity to share information with us about your child that will assist us in the class placement process for next year. If you would like to complete this form, please return it no later than Friday, April 26, 2019.
Our latest morning news video “The Wanted” began airing this week. This time the crew was made up of students from the current morning news crew and students from GBW’s Green Team. The students met after school for several weeks to work on this video to teach students about environmental responsibility. After weeks of enduring constant costume changes, wearing fake moustaches, and tying and untying bandanas, they are very excited to share this video with everyone. We know you’ll enjoy it.

As you may know, Greenbriar West is part of a cohort (“Phase One”) of schools in Fairfax County that has provided 1:1 technology to students. Teachers at your child’s school have also been provided targeted professional development to encourage effective blended learning instruction and student-centered learning environments. The Johns Hopkins University is currently conducting an evaluation of the technology initiative in all Phase One schools. Please be on the lookout for an email from JHU to complete a brief survey related to parent perceptions of the initiative. Parent voices are critical to the evolution of the initiative at (school) and other FCPS locations that currently or will implement 1:1 technology for their students.

Screening for school-based services can happen at any time during the school year but is done school wide in spring to determine services for the next school year. Parents or guardians may initiate the screening for school-based (level II and III) services by submitting the AAP School-Based Services (Level II-III) Referral Form to the AART at Greenbriar West (prior to spring screening) by May 3, 2019. Multiple criteria are used to screen students for all levels of AAP services. Parents or guardians who submit a referral will be notified by Greenbriar West of their student’s eligibility status by June 4, 2019.
If a parent or guardian wishes to appeal an ineligible decision, they may submit an appeal with new data for consideration by the local school screening committee. This new information should be submitted to Sara Balcanoff.
If you have any questions, please contact Sara Balcanoff at sebalcanoff@fcps.edu.

SOL Preparations on Student Devices
All students will be using their FCPSOn Devices for SOL testing. Please ensure your student’s laptop is working and that they have their power charger and case.
Greenbriar West will be conducting a student laptop “health check” on Wednesday, April 10. Please ensure students have their laptop, power charger, case, and headphones in school on April 10. We will be checking that the student computer does not have any hardware or software problems that might affect their ability to take an SOL test.
