Good afternoon Lake Braddock Community,
I am just back in my office after attending our Teachers for Tomorrow County-Wide Recognition Ceremony held here at Lake Braddock this afternoon. If you are not familiar with this program, it is offered not only at Lake Braddock but also Chantilly Academy, Edison Academy, Centreville HS, Falls Church HS, and Mt. Vernon HS. It gives students real-world experience working as a teacher intern in a classroom under the guidance of a mentor teacher. Our students are placed in classrooms at Lake Braddock as well as our feeder elementary classrooms. For the first time ever, FCPS is offering recruitment contracts to students who successfully complete the course and then go on to complete a teacher preparation program at the university level. It is basically a promise that we will hire them to teach in FCPS. It is an innovative and creative solution to our national teacher shortage. Grow our own! Congrats to LB's own Morgan, Augustin, Allison, Adin, and Heidi who have been offered teaching contracts. Huge thanks to Paul Agner who leads our program. We are so proud of our teacher cadets and look forward to them returning to FCPS as our colleagues.
Here's to a UVA win tomorrow!!

Congrats to MS Chorus
Middle School Chorus had two groups perform last Saturday, both of which earned a “Superior” rating. This qualifies our school for the VMEA Blue Ribbon Award. The VMEA Blue Ribbon Award is the highest award given to school music programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia and recognizes those who achieve excellence in Band, Orchestra, and Choral Performance. All disciplines in a school must receive a rating of "Superior" at assessment to qualify for this award. Congrats to all of our music students and directors!
HS Information
FCPSOn coming to Lake Braddock HS in August 2019
The Fairfax County School Board has directed Superintendent Brabrand to incorporate necessary funding in his FY 2020 Proposed Budget for FCPSOn’s expansion to all high schools. FCPSOn is a digital transformation initiative that provides students with access to one device to use for learning. Schools in the Chantilly Pyramid and eLearning Backpack high schools adopted FCPSOn as part of a pilot program in 2016. In the 2019-20 school year, all high school students will have a device to use for learning. This is an extraordinary opportunity for Lake Braddock high school students! It will help ensure they have equitable access to technology and to instructional practices that support their development of Portrait of a Graduate attributes including communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. Employers will expect these skills, along with tech fluency and innovation, from tomorrow's workforce. FCPSOn helps prepare students to meet those demands. We recognize the incredible responsibility that comes with a digital transformation. It includes teaching as well as modeling digital citizenship, so our students adopt safe, smart, and responsible online practices. It also means empowering students to make healthy, balanced choices regarding their device usage. FCPSOn reinforces these practices within the learning process and beyond. It creates a shared responsibility between school and home that thoughtfully supports students as they incorporate these new strategies. Rest assured that devices will not replace teachers. On the contrary, FCPSOn provides ongoing, dynamic professional learning for teachers that will result in more purposeful and collaborative student learning experiences. Please stay tuned for more information regarding our school’s adoption of FCPSOn. In the interim, you may visit the FCPSOn webpage for more information.
