Principal's Letter

Dear Waynewood Owls,

This week we had the second grade wax museum, the fourth grade field trip to Jamestown, a new cafeteria arrangement, and so much more!

We did some table adjustments in the cafeteria in anticipation of the arrival of the salad bar on April 10. We are trying some new arrangements and seeing how the flow of traffic works. Students will be trained how to use the salad bar by food services staff before it is implemented. Students will make their salad bar choices prior to entering the hot lunch area. We are excited for this healthy addition to our school lunch program.

April is the month of the military child. During the month of April we recognize the sacrifices made by all of our military families. Our military students make many sacrifices and face challenges that we want to acknowledge and support. We have many military connected students at Waynewood. Photos of our military families will be proudly displayed on the bulletin board outside the main office. To show our support for our military families, we have designated several days throughout the month to “Purple Up”. Everyone is encouraged to wear purple on those days in honor of our military connected students. Our first “Purple Up” day will be Thursday, April 4. The other scheduled “Purple Up” days are Friday, April 12 and Friday, April 26. There will be a popsicle social on Friday, April 26 directly after school. Stop by on your way home!

As a reminder, Monday, April 1 is school picture day. Also of note, next week is Kindergarten Orientation on Friday, April 5 from 10:00-11:00am. We can’t wait to meet all the new owls! There will be a playdate for rising kindergarteners on the Waynewood playground immediately following the orientation from 11-12. Please encourage any rising kindergarten families you know to attend!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal

This past Sunday, you should have received an e-mail from FCPS Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand inviting you to participate in the 2019 FCPS Family Engagement Survey. We hope that you have taken it already, but if not, please do so as soon as possible. We value your opinions and want to hear from you! The survey covers the areas of communicating, providing opportunities to partner, developing positive relationships, ensuring student success, and more! The information we learn from you will help us strengthen family engagement and continue fostering a Caring Culture here at Waynewood and throughout FCPS. There are three ways you can complete the survey, if you have not done so already:

  1. Use the survey link in the e-mail from Dr. Brabrand. If you can’t find that e-mail, you can use this direct link to the public URL: https://survey.k12insight.com/r/FCPSFamilyEngagement19.
  2. Ask in the Waynewood office for a paper survey. You can complete it right there on the spot.
  3. Complete the online survey using one of the school computers. The office staff would be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically at the school.

The survey will be open until Friday, April 12th. We thank you in advance for your participation.
