Positivity Project

Our students continue to learn about the 24 character strengths and virtues. This month classes spent 10 minutes a day defining, describing and engaging in activities that promote the character strengths love of learning, forgiveness, and fairness.

The Positivity Project defines love of learning as: you master new topics on your own or in school. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. Challenge your family to learn two new words together each week. Each member of the family must use the new word at least five times during the week.

Our students also spent a week exploring fairness which is the belief that all people have value. You approach situations with an unbiased mindset and treat everyone with respect. With your family, discuss how this picture represents fairness. What can each member of your family do at home to make things fair?

Next, as a family, play the following game. You have to decide if each scenario is “fair” or “unfair.” Tell your family why you made that choice.

  1. Your older sister gets to stay up later than you. Fair or Unfair? Why?
  2. Your brother got money for his birthday and you did not. Fair or Unfair? Why?
  3. The oldest sibling always gets to sit in the front seat of the car. Fair or Unfair? Why?
  4. Your little sister took your ball and won’t let you play with it. Fair or Unfair? Why?
  5. Does fairness means everyone gets the same thing, or what they need
