WSHS Attendance Policies  & Procedures

Attendance Phone Line:  703-913-3838

Attendance Email:  WSHSattendance@fcps.edu

It is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to contact the attendance office by either the Attendance Phone Line, Attendance Email, or a signed written note to report late arrivals and absences within 72 hours (Extra Curricular Participation Policy requires medical notes on day of absence to participate).  After 72 hours, absences are considered unexcused and may result in disciplinary action, and must be cleared by the Dean of Students, Dr. Cronin (pscronin@fcps.edu).

Late Arrivals (Students must follow Check In procedures to be excused).

Students may not enter classrooms after 8:10 a.m. If they have a note excusing the tardy, they must check in at the Main Office and receive a YELLOW tardy pass. Students arriving without a note can be let into the room but will be marked unexcused tardy by the teacher. ALL tardy students will sign in with teacher. Students who arrive at any time after the school day has started, must do so through the Main Office; this includes during breaks, lunches, and between class periods.

Students leaving during school hours must follow Check Out Procedures to be excused:

Students MAY NOT leave school grounds for any reason without an attendance Check Out Pass.

Prescheduled early departures: a check out pass must be picked up in the Main Office by the student prior to the class period they are leaving; this will be shown to the teacher for them to leave class.  To request an early check-out for an unexpected situation DURING the school day, a parent, legal guardian, or person listed on students Emergency Care Card, MUST come into the Main Office with photo identification to have the student released; students will not be dismissed during the last 20 minutes of the school day.  Leaving school grounds and returning to school without following the procedures outlined above may result in the student being searched.
