Book Drive

Shayla Young will be representing Irving Middle School as one of two Virginia Spirit of Community Honorees participating at a week long program in May. She has organized a book drive to provide books for students at Cleveland Elementary School, one of the schools she will be visiting during the week of community service.  Please help support these students by donating new or gently used children’s books. All donations may be placed in the book drive box in our foyer.

Lost and Found Items

Irving’s Lost and Found is on display for all students to check during their lunch period. At the end of every month we wash and donate all clothing, lunchboxes, and water bottles. If you child has lost an item, please advise them to check for it during lunch. We will make announcements  the week up to donation day to remind students to claim their belongings. If you would like to inquire about an item, please email bekirtner@fcps.edu

Library News

It’s Time to Take a Break and Read!

A tradition at Irving takes place each Spring Break.  During the break, students and faculty members are encouraged to take a photo of themselves reading.  Through the years we’ve had photos of students reading in front of the Eiffel Tower, on horseback at a beach, in front of the Alamo, on the couch with a bunch of younger siblings, or on a hammock in the backyard.  At the end of the break, one 7th grader, one 8th grader and one faculty member are picked at random and awarded a gift card for books.  All of the photographs we receive are displayed on a bulletin board outside the library doors.

Whatever your Spring Break plans are, we hope that they involve some time to read!  We’re always happy to recommend a good book if your child wants a suggestion.

Stay tuned for full details of our Take a Break and Read Contest.
