Dear CES,
This week some of our students and staff demonstrated why CES is the BEST!
On Tuesday Ms. Kropaczek, Mr. Turner, and a group of current and former students (picture on right) did a brilliant job representing the school at the Centreville Honor Band Concert. I was incredibility impressed with the music ability exhibited by the students.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Settlemyre, Ms. Burrows, and Mr. Baybrook hosted our very first Recycling Fashion Show at CES. We had over 20 students strut their designs in the fashion show (pictures are below). Their designs were creative, flashy, and all made from recycled materials. The Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Kaiser did a great job ensuring the event ran smoothly. It was a wonderful night that we plan to continue in the future.

PTA Engagement Survey:
It's hard to believe the end of the year is quickly approaching. The current PTA board is looking towards next school year and we want your input. Please take some time and complete our engagement survey. The results will be shared with the new board, which will be elected in May and used as we plan for the 2019-2020 school year. You may remain anonymous or share your contact information if you'd like to expand on your comments. You do not have to be a current PTA member to submit a survey. The grade level with the highest percent of participation will earn a grade level spirit day chosen by the teachers. The teachers of that grade level will be gifted with lunch.
Spring Book Fair:
Calling all parents and family members. I am so excited for our upcoming Spring "Dino-mite" Book Fair! We'd love for you to come and help out at the Book Fair in any way possible. Please sign up for the time(s) that work best for you. When you arrive at the school please sign in at the office and proceed to the library. If you have any questions, please contact Aubrey Thorne, CES Librarian, at adthorne@fcps.edu. Volunteers will receive a $5 voucher for use at the book fair. FCPS Values Your Opinion
On March 24th, you will receive an invitation from Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools to participate in the 2019 FCPS Family Engagement Survey!
We would love for you to complete the survey letting us know how we are doing in the areas of:
- Communicating
- Providing you opportunities to partner.
- Developing positive relationships.
- Ensuring student success and more.
The survey will be available between March 24th- April 12th.
The information we learn from you will help us strengthen family engagement and continue fostering a Caring Culture throughout FCPS.
There are 3 ways you can complete the survey.
- Check your email after March 24 for an invitation with a survey link from Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent with subject line: FCPS Family Engagement Survey.
- Ask the front office staff for a paper survey. You can complete it right there on the spot.
- Complete the online survey using one of the school computers. The office staff would be happy to show you an available computer for you to complete the survey electronically at the school.

This past week our students focused on:
FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness means that you forgive those who have done wrong. You accept that people make mistakes. It is the ability to move past being injured and allow yourself to reconcile with the person who hurt you. Forgiveness can often be seen as a selfless act, but it also carries many benefits for those who practice it.
Those who demonstrate forgiveness have the ability to move forward after someone has hurt them. Forgiveness is often rooted in the idea that all people are valuable and worthy of a second chance. Many who forgive have the ability to consider things from another’s perspective.
