Music in Our Schools Month

March is “Music In Our Schools Month”! We are celebrating all of the wonderful MUSIC that is happening at Lees Corner! This month in every grade we are singing the song “We Believe in Music.” We have posted pictures on the wall in the main hallway, showing our students in Music class, Band, Chorus, and Strings.

In General Music we are singing, dancing, creating, listening and composing. Our Kindergarteners presented “Three Piggy Opera” to friends and families. In first grade, we are experiencing Jazz music, learning about musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald. In second grade and adapted music we are singing songs and playing pieces on the barred instruments. Third graders are progressing well on their recorders, reading music and learning to play with good tone. Fourth graders are learning all about the music they will hear in their upcoming NSO concert field trip. Fifth graders are working on composition projects, using the names of pies. Sixth Graders this month will be completing their county Music Assessment, which will utilize their music composition skills.  WE BELIEVE IN MUSIC at Lees Corner!

3/21 is World Down Syndrome Day

March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day. The date 3/21 is significant as it was selected to represent the trisomy of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.  Fun, crazy socks have become symbolic of Down Syndrome awareness. The sock initiative was created to get people talking and asking questions about Down Syndrome. There are many organizations today that create crazy socks to raise money and awareness for Down Syndrome. Crazy socks made by our special education students will be on display in the lobby to raise awareness for Down Syndrome!

Students and Staff are invited to wear their own crazy socks on March 21st! Click below to learn more.
