Statewide Tornado Drill
As required by Virginia regulations, students participated in a statewide tornado drill today. Students assumed the tornado safety position on the first floor, facing the wall in a crouched position with their hands over their heads. Students did a great job quickly assuming safety positions and the drill concluded in under 10 minutes.
Ms. Omaraie's Music Class Overflowing with Creativity
The music room has been bursting with creativity this spring. All grades have been using our wonderful array of barred instruments, drums, and various unpitched percussion. Kindergarten and 1st grade have been focusing on basic rhythms, steady beat, and the difference between beat and rhythm. 2nd grade is putting in hard work towards their upcoming musical, Go Fish, which will be performed April 3rd at 7 PM. 3rd graders continue to earn their belts in Recorder Karate, while 4th grade has been talking about an interesting new rhythm pattern called "syncopa". Parents of 5th graders who are wondering what happened to all of their cardboard boxes and paper towel rolls need wonder no longer - 5th graders are getting ready to culminate their science of sound STEAM unit with performances on their hand-made instruments this week! Finally, we have been discussing the idea of a jingle in 6th grade and are working up to composing our own jingles for "Mom's Pizza" later this spring. As always, be on the lookout for day-to-day happenings on Twitter @MsOmaraieCWES!

Important Immunization Requirement: Do You Have a Student Entering Sixth Grade Next Year?
If yes, he or she may need a booster dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis). Sixth grade students cannot begin school in August without documentation of the Tdap booster. Parents or guardians should ask their private healthcare provider, or the health department, to review their child’s immunization record if they are unsure if their child has received the Tdap booster.
Students who have received a Tdap booster between the ages of seven and eleven do not need another dose. Documentation must be provided to the school student information assistant (SIA) or registrar as soon as possible.
